I find it quite courageous. I think many have doubts from time to time. They may think, "Who is this person really?", or they may think, "why am I doing all this strange stuff?" I think doubts are quite normal ... they are just like coming across a boulder in the road. I do think it is quite amazing that you and your partner experienced the same experience at the same time, so I think you are right about Mother's hand being in it. You know the thoughts did not come from your own intellectualizing and then they just as rapidly disappeared. Perhaps this is part of what someone recently referred to as Amma's washing machine. I actually like this image better than the one that the Washington, DC, satsangers used to say to me when I lived back there. If someone acted out or behaved inappropriately, someone would say, "Oh, it is just Amma stirring the pot." I just could not accept that Amma was responsible in any way for other people's inappropriate behavior. But the washing machine analogy is very descriptive because it shows us that we might experience things that are uncomfortable (and we climbed into the washing machine of our own volition), but that the ultimate purpose is that we come out pure, clean, and sweet smelling as Amma's Rose.
