Guest guest
Dear List Members, a friend of mine, currently at Amritapuri, gave me permission to post this message for our group. April 25th News flash! This ashram is run by a crazy woman! It resembles an insane asylum more than anything else. Amma is sponsoring a "camp" for "tsunami children," 2,000 of them. And guess what....They're all housed in the regular quarters. This floor has been empty except for three rooms. It ain't empty any more! It's nearly midnight and sounds like a children's holiday in the hall. (Heck, it IS a children's holiday in the hall!) How do you say "Shut the hell up!" in Malayalam?" That's one reality. The other one is that there's a part of me that's amused and just watching. What ELSE will She do? What else CAN She do? M., a fellow devotee-resident, seems to think it's all part of a huge publicity battle over who's doing the most for tsunami victims, Amma, the Christians, the Communists, or the Muslims. The go'vt of Kerala, he says, gave Amma only permission to build 50 replacement homes so far. This is because the gov't doesn't want to be made to look bad by Her and also they want the other groups to look better than Amma. So she is limited to building only 50 homes so far. When the glory is all gone, they'll probably dump the whole thing in her lap. Ha, ha. It's too bad I love Amma so much or I could go to a "real" ashram (like Karunamayi's) where one can meditate 6 hours a day. This is an insane asylum. I just looked outside in the hall to see what all the hulabaloo was about, and the young Austrian guy next door was also standing outside his door looking. We gave each other resigned waves and entered our respective flats. Guest guest
A real ashram is where you get to work on your vasanas and learn to be at peace in any circumstance- whether its 20000 people crowded on a hot devi bhava night or 2000 children screaming preventing all possible sleep ..... an idyllic place where one gets to meditate and sip a silent cup of chai while feeling good about oneself may not always serve to reduce one's vasanas or erase the ego. just my 2C. bala sara <saramj33 wrote: Dear List Members, a friend of mine, currently at Amritapuri, gave me permission to post this message for our group.
