Amritanandamayi Math to sign MoU with Sri Lanka

By Our Staff Reporter

THRISSUR, APRIL 9. The Sri Lankan Government will sign an MoU with the

Matha Amritanadamayi Math to carry out the relief operations both in

the tsunami-hit and war-torn areas in that country.

This was disclosed here today by the Sri Lankan Deputy Director of

Urban Development, Rita Nalavathe and the consultant for the Sri

Lankan Ministry for Hindu Cultural Affairs, Maheswari Velayudham,

after holding talks with Matha Amritanadamayi.

They said the MoU to be signed next week in Sri Lanka between the

representatives of the Sri Lankan Government of that country and the

Math will cover projects such as construction of `Amritakuteeram'

houses as well as other forms of relief operations.

They said there was also a proposal to launch tele-medicine facilities

from the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Ernakulam, to provide

health care in the rural areas of Sri Lanka.

Speaker's compliment

Later in the evening, the Speaker, Therambil Ramakrishnan, handed over

the keys of the houses built by the Math for the people in the coastal

areas of the district whose houses have been destroyed in the tsunami

waves.

House construction

The Math has started construction of 100 houses for the tsunami-hit

people in the district and keys of the ten completed houses were

handed over to the beneficiaries at the function.

In his speech, the Speaker paid tributes to the services being

rendered by the Math for the needy people.

He said it was unfortunate that an unnecessary controversy was raked

up when the Math proposed to construct houses for the tsunami-hit

people.

Now it had become clear that the Math had succeeded where the

Government had failed, he said.

Earlier in her address to the devotees after the installation of the

`thazhikakkudam' of the Brahmasthanam temple, Matha Amritanadamayi

said it was arrogance that was destroying the humanity.

She said human beings were getting alienated fast from the nature as

well. All these gulfs could be bridged only through love.
