Dear June ~ I think this attachment to the body is especially difficult for those of us who have chronic physical illness. The body is constantly asserting itself. And yet, this is also the way out of the dilemma, to even in the midst of physical pain or other illness to recollect that "I am not this body." This has helped me greatly when I have been able to affirm and believe it. The body is like a leaf, whether it is well or ill, it eventually loses it's vitality, falls from the tree and decays. And yet, as an artist, I have often collected these "dead" leaves for they are quite beautiful. I think this beauty that remains, even in infirmity or death is the soul shining through.
