The Magic of the Mantra

Throughout history, religions have believed in the

sacred power of words. Mantras are words or phrases

chanted out loud or reflected upon as objects of

meditation. Their origins go back at least to the

Vedic tradition of ancient India - mantra is the

Sanskrit term for 'sacred utterance'. We hear a

musical soundscape featuring the Gayatri Mantra, one

of the fundamental mantras of Hinduism.

I enjoy some ABC Radio National programs more than

most Aussies! I think in Auz they consider Radio

National to be dull, conservative programming for

stodgy old f***s, like CBC Radio One here in Canada!
