Dear aspire ~ this is true. Amma does not ask people to give up their own religious affiliations. My mother, who is a born-again Christian, has seen Amma many times, and even got a Jesus mantra from Amma. On the other hand, if the person's church disavow's a person for seeing Amma or for doing bhajans or puja, then I suppose it is then up to the person to make a choice. Guest guest
In general, it's true that Amma doesn't try to convert people, and has spoken out against proselytizing. At the same time...it seems like she doesn't object to people from other faiths coming to follow the path of relationship with Her. A woman asked a question during the public Q&A at the Michigan retreat about whether she's have to choose between her Buddhist path and the path of having a guru relationship with Amma. I remember Amma saying that she did...but I don't want to mangle Her words/reasoning. Does anyone remember exactly what She said? In general, Amma has felt very spacious to me, but it seems that once you do take her on as a teacher...be careful what questions you ask! ;-) Also...it's important to remember that Amma relates to each of us differently, and tells us what will be helpful to us, given where we are. This is why sometimes you may hear of her telling people things that may sound contradictory. It's always good if you can find a way to check in with Her yourself, either directly or on a more subtle level of discernment. Guest guest
Hi, What I recall from the Q&A in Michigan is that Amma said to pick any path but make sure there is a teacher/guru. I have also heard Her say that She will help us along on any path we choose. Ultimately I don't think the path is important but the intention behind it...a journey to God.
