Kerala govt going slow on Amritha Math's offer: BJP:

[Kerala, India]: Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 2 : BJP today

charged the Oommen Chandy Government in Kerala with

'going slow' on Matha Amrithamanandamayi Math's offer

to take up Rs 100 crore tsunami rehabiliation work and

wanted the Government to publish a detailed account of

the relief donations it had received from different

sources.

"It is a month since the Amritha Math made the biggest

relief pledge. It is strange that the government is

dragging its feet on the proposal. One is forced to

suspect whether there is a hidden agenda on the part

of the government," senior BJP leader Rajagopal told a

press meet here.

He said he had learnt that the Tamil Nadu Government

had already begun work on the proposals made by the

Amritha Math for the tsunami-hit people in that state.

There was a report in a section of media that only a

particular organisation had so far been given the

go-ahead to build houses. If this was true, then that

amounted to "discrimination", the BJP leader said.

He said the rehabilitation work was yet to take off in

Kerala and the process also lacked transparency.

Government's "inaction" had forced the calamity-hit

people at Karunagapally in Kollam district to take to

streets in protest, he alleged.

Government should place in the Assembly a detailed

account of the contributions it received from the

Centre and from other sources,he added. PTI

For those not familiar with Indian politics: BJP is

Bharatiya Janata Party, the party of former Prime

Minister Vajpayee. http://www.bjp.org

I'm not surprised that the Kerala government is slow

to warm to Amma's billion-rupee offer of help. The

government is full of Communists and Rationalists, and

Christians make up a good chunk of the state's

population.
