Guest guest
Tulasi The Holy Basil Tulasi is considered one of the most sacred plants. Beheld as a form of the Divine Mother, Tulasi Devi is believed to give both material and spiritual benefits Amma says: Tulasi leaves are highly medicinal. In ancient India, part of the daily practice was to water the Tulasi every morning for Her blessings, bowing down with reverent e and devotion, worshiping Her as an embodiment of the Goddess. We must revive such practices in order to regain the lost harmony of our lives." /GtreenFriends/ is encouraging the re-awakening of such ancient traditions that allow Luis to behold the Divine within Nature, and to cultivate an attitude of love and reverence towards all Aspects of the creation /Tulasi is an invaluable component of Ayurvedic Herbal Medicine./ The Medicinal benefits of Tulasi .. A tea made of Tulasi leaves (containing Vitamin C, calcium and phosphorous) relieves cough, colds, headaches, fever and improves stamina. .. Tulasi leaves mixed with ginger relieve stomach disorders. .. Tulasi aids diabetes, heart disease, malaria, improves eyesight, and is used for inflammation. .. A paste of Tulasi root is an antidote to snake and scorpion bites. ..Tulasi oil can be used as an insect repellent, an antiseptic, and soothes insect bites. Ancient tradition proclaims that worshiping the Tulasi plant will bring peace, prosperity and happiness into family life, purify the atmosphere, and awaken devotion. The traditional prayers or mantras for the practice are as follows: Worship the /Tulasi Devi in the morning with the: Tulasi Pranamma mantra Vrindayai Tulasi-devyai Priyayai keshavasya Devi Vishnu-bhakti-prade devi Satya-vatyai namo namah /I offer my prayers to Tulasi Devi Who is very dear to Lord Krishna Oh Goddess, You bestow devotion and posess the hightst truth. /Go around the plant four times, offering water while chanting the: Tulasi Pradakshina Mantra: Yani kani cha papani Brama-hatyadikani cha Tani tani pranasyanti pradakshina pade pade. /By circumbulating Tulasi Devi All sins committed are destroyed at every step. / Instructions for Growing Tulasi Plant seeds indoors in small pots or seeding trays. Any seedling soil mix from a nursery should be fine. Plant seeds 1-2 centemeters deep. Keep evenly moist at all times in a very warm place. Water must be sprinkled by hand lightly. Do not let surface of soil become dry. Seedlings should emerge between 3-4 weeks. Wait until plants have more than 10 leaves before transplanting to bigger pots. Be careful not to disturb roots by taking the original soil along with it. If growing outdoors, wait six weeks, and plant in a very sunny place in moist, rich, well-draining soil. Tulasi will not grow in the cold, so you may wish to grow in a pot indoors in a sunny window. Pinch off flowering buds to encourage new growth, and to keep Tulasi from going to seed. This will allow the plant to grow longer. Otherwise you can allow the plant to go to seed, and plant new plants from seed or cuttings. Guest guest
Namah Shivaya Ours came from San Ramon in June. In November they were selling plants and seeds there. Is there a GreenFriends section on the Amma.org web site? Otherwise I have no clue. It smells beautiful - very pungent and sweet. Now it is pretty dormant and we are trying to milk it thru the winter - keeping our fingers crossed and asking Tulasi to stay..
