Guest guest
Namah Shivaya dear siblings. Feeling sad that there¹s been no response from our list to the request for help for our brother Themba. He lost his job and shelter last week at a Christian recovery center because he was listening to an Amma bhajan. Because he couldn¹t bear the cigarette smoke and vulgar language at the homeless shelter, he spent one cold winter¹s night in a cardboard box. Two devotees near him are currently giving him temporary respite but he needs help in finding permanent shelter, another job and easy access to Rockford. When Amma pledged $23 million for tsunami relief, She said She was counting on Her children to help Her. Please consider being Her instrument to give a little help to Her son Themba as our list has done for Amma¹s home building program, Robin and her children and Iswari¹s retreat with Amma in MI. Please write me off list for address to which to send a money order. Even small amounts will make a huge difference. Frankly I have been recently flamed on this list. If does not feel good. But please believe that the strong language below is not intended to attack in any manner. The prayer to Amma is that my input be viewed constructively. The prayer is that egos stand aside and strong mental viveks prevail. (myself included). Appeals for a devotee losing His/Her job are not the primary or framkly even secondary purpose of this forum. Have we diverted from a forum to a fund-raising mechanism? IT appears that we are posting here to share our collective experience about a specific Guru/Incarnation. To illustrate I have a neighbor who has two children and has a diagnosis of terminal cancer. Should I make an appeal on this list? Does it matter if she is or is not an Amma devotee? There is incredible suffering just two doors down. Another concern is that anyone can post here. There is no screening process. Kenna is certainly legitimate. I met you in Michigan but you perhaps did not know who I was. Additionally seemingly shrill requests that appeal to our guilt can be posted. But we do not come to this group per se to empty our wallets for the endless array of societal woes. Can we stop the guitl trip? For certain all human and animal suffering indirectly refers to Ammachi. Amma may even approve of the old axiom think globally but act locally. But please remember that this is a list for Amma discussion. Donate for this donate for that. You gave to this devotee why dont you now give to this one. It appears to this mon that the tsunamai is Ammas primary focus at this time. Amma has even put some of Her other programs eg (aid to widows) on hold for the time being in preference to the Tsunamai catastrophe. Beloved Amma has cancelled the lion share of her tour. Today's Amritapuri.org shows Amma pleading with Kerala's government to assist Her mission for the devastated Tsunami villagers. What is the common denominator? It appears the Tsunami and the Tsunami alone. This does not mean Amma is not concerned with the suffering in Angola or Iraq. Amma is in need of help in a focused way at this time. This is just my bashful two cents worth. Once again let us all consider Amma's focus. Daily updates. Fund raising benefit's What for? She has a very specific project. Twenty plus million could go to eg. Africa's Aids crisis but that is not Her focus at this time. May we all do what is beneficial. May we all find Peace. Ammachi's motto itself is to help those in need. I think we are all bothers and sister here, Moreover by helping others we are helping ourslves. Aum Avinash. Aum Amriteswarayai Namaha! Guest guest
Thank you very much for finding Themba's story online. He had told me that it was there but we were unable to find it. This is the same person. Please pray for him. This son of Amma is making it very hard for himself recently. Renjini at the MA Center did the editing on this earlier version of Themba's story which Br. Dayamrita had posted on the website.. Jai Ma! Guest guest
This is a perfect issue to come up on this list. Amma is basically a charity worker, so in providing for Themba we get to be like Amma. Where I see some controversy is fear on the part of the posters here. I've been in need and it can be really easy to ask for help. But it is really hard for someone with abundance to hear someone ask for help. Helping others essential to being human. I heard one person say that it feels much better to feed than to be fed and it feels much better to give than to recieve. When someone asks for help it sends a chill through someone who has alot, because they earn alot just so they can make more because thats what everyone else does, even though the whole time they are only a few paychecks away from ending up on the streets. No one ever thinks that once they've found comfort, it might be most fulfilling to then help others. The best way to leave this dilemma is to become needy and have to ask others for help. Easier said than done. one_tiny_atom <one_tiny_atom wrote: Dear GeorgeSon, Namah Shivaya. Hope you are recovering well from your surgery earlier this month. Guest guest
This is an interesting question. I don't know a thing about what Rotary Clubs do here in the US. Themba is still homeless as far as I know. I always got the feeling that they supported organizations so that the help was much more indirect but I don't know. Guest guest
I did some research on the rotary club yesterday. They are an intl service organization with different social service programs around the world. I think the local rotary club would have to be contacted and then if they have a program appropriate for Themba they would help. They have a lot of info on their website.
