Guest guest
Themba is having some trials now. All of us need to learn the difference between self-love and selfishness, between appropriate attention to supporting ourselves in the culture where we live and ego. One of many things which deeply impress me about Amma is how quickly she understands the nitty-gritty of these issues. I hope that Sweta does notmind my sharing this story. Sweta has shared to me about asking Amma whether she should take a job where she would have the chance to serve some of society's most forgotten people. Amma told her that it was not worth it because the job did not provide benefits. This is an understanding of self-love and self-care in our society, eh? Sweta turned down the offer and told the potential employer that a valued friend had advised her against taking it since it did not offer benefits. The employer came up with a job with beneifts. I love that Amma is so down-to-earth and practical. She is not romantic and "idealistic." Still look how she transforms the world! Guest guest
Dear Aikya, What you write is true, but the event was even a little more generous. The job offer that I rescinded my acceptance of, was only 30 hours per week, & it was to be reviewed in a few months. The subsequent offer was 40 hours per week, permanent AND fully benefitted. I'm thinking that this is a microcosm of the blessings & grace we open ourselves to, when we trustingly obey our Guru, Amma.
