namah shivayah beloveds ,

Shiva is for destruction .. But for the destruction of negativities

and fluctuating thoughts .. So All shiva related rituals are more

for purification and destruction .. same when it comes to the shiva

mantra om na ma shi va ya .. each letter polishes different

centres/chakras of our being .

If you know the split up of AUM , it is AAA + UUU + hmmnn..(humming)

it is related to trimurthis , vishnu , brahma & shiva .. SOHAM is

also as good as AUM .

AAA - For solar plexus chakra , Vishnu related & for creation of

positive energies

UU -- For Heart chakra , Brahma related and for maintenance of those

positive qualities

MMM -- (Humming sound) For Ajna chakra & above , Shivah related and

for destruction of vasanas (tendencies) and negative thoughts

That is why symbolically shivah is having a 3rd eye representing the

lord helping to open the ajna chakra.

Sing a typical om namah shivayah bhajan for sometime and watch the

vibrations .. Sing a hare rama hare krishna bhajan for some time and

watch the vibrations .. you will know the difference and just the

very watching of vibrations can lead you to meditation.

don't worry too much about the mantras.. The key is in having

silence and awareness without losing the devotion. so blindly follow

the master's foot steps silently ..
