"Somewhere I was told that Shiva can be described as pure

consciousness itself. If Shiva is purity itself then no descriptives are

necessary. ..."

In a dream of Shiva, he appeared too beautiful & pure for words to give Him

justice.

"There are infinite views on Shiva's so called 'dance"

I just love Shiva. He has helped me so much. Extremely undeservingly graced

with a vision that i believe portrayed Shiva's dance, while meditating in the

presence of a Sadhguru who works with Shiva, was the turning point in my life

that put me onto a spiritual path. Yes, my life was turned up-side-down, but

what wonderful changes have transpired. I met Amma, for one.

I most definitely see Shiva as a colorfully beautiful transformer, changing the

creation with infinte, Divine grace & creativity in His dance.

Om Namah Shivaya!

Om Amrtesvaryai Namah!

Namaskarams!!

in reference to the statement below"

"while meditating in the presence of a Sadhguru who works with Shiva,

was the turning point in my life that put me onto a spiritual path."

i am wondering if that "Sat Guru" might have been His Holiness, Sri

Sivaya Subramuniyaswami, of Kauai, Hawaii, the publisher of "Hinduism

Today", Who attained Mahasamadhi in October of 2001? i believe that

He and Amma are working together in this incarnation...and He is even

still accessible and helpful to the devotees.

in reference to Lord Siva, one's view of Him would depend upon the

Religious orientation of the perceiver.

as we know there are Four Main "sects" of Hinduism...Smarta,

Vaishnavism, Saivism, and Saktism...

we who are Amma's devotees most likely would be considered to belong

to either the Saivites or the Saktas...or possibly Vaishavites...

if one is a follower of the Saivite path, either Siddhanta Saivism,

or Vira Saivism, one would understand that Lord Siva is ALL...that He

is Creator, Preserver, AND destroyer...also we would consider that

Lord Siva is the foundation of the universe, pure consciousness, and

that the Sakti (or the Devi) Who is the creatrix of the Universe, is

Lord Siva's Sakti, or His "Power"...that He is unable to create

anything or preserve it or destroy it either, without that

Sakti...but Saivites will believe that the Sakti comes out from Lord

Siva to do the Creation. Saivites are generally considered to be

followers of Advaita (at least as i understand it)

Saktas, on the other hand will understand that the foundation of the

Universe is SAKTI...that SAKTI is ALL IN ALL...that everything

depends upon HER...they will believe and understand that in this

case, Lord Siva is coming out of the Sakti...that in fact ALL the

Devas, and all of us, and the entire creation comes out of HER

ALONE...and in fact that the Universe itself is a FORM of

Sakti...that everything and everyone is thus HOLY ....Saktas will

understand that Advaita is what best describes the reality...but that

Form is a useful way to approach Advaita...to meditate upon and pray

to the Devi with form...trusting that She will bring us to the

understanding of Advaita Vedanta.

Vaishnavas on the other hand will generally believe that Lord Visnu

is the foundation of the Universe...and that He uses HIS Sakti to

make the creation...his Sakti is known as "Mahamaya"...

They will understand and believe that ALL of the Devas and Devis come

out from Lord Visnu...and they tend to have what is called a

dualistic, or Dvaita view of reality.

i hope that this is of some help in understanding a little about why

Lord Siva is seen in so many different ways by the different

devotees...please forgive me if there are any errors in my little

expose above..so much more could be said.

In Amma's Divine Love

and in Her Service,

as ever,

your Own Self
