Americans especially have a really negative attitude towards Islam. It's important to remember that all religions have something precious and valuable at their heart Dear Prajna ~ I personally have never had any negative attitudes towards muslims, and one of my great fears after 9/11 was that there would be hate crimes in America against muslims. Thankfully, there were only a few, but that was a few too many. When I grew up, as a child and young teenager, I lived in a very racist family, racist against African Americans. For some reason this never rubbed off on me, and I could never understand it. I felt embarrassed by it, horrified when I was yelled at for playing with a black child, and confused when I transferred to a new school that was in a more southern part of Maryland, and the principal apologized because there were blacks in the school. I really couldn't even understand it. For whatever reason, some human beings will come up with reasons to see people of other colors, nationalities, religions as "the other." This then lets them perpetrate all kinds of bad behavior because "the other" is not quite human. We must all do what we can to keep this poison out of our own lives and challenge it when we see it. I agree with what you say about every religion having something precious at its heart. Over the course of my lifetime and studying many religious traditions, I have realized that, once the outer kernel is pared away, the sweet fruit of Truth is the same in all. That Truth is so simple, and yet, so hard ~ Love, just Love. Love God/dess in everything; love everything as God/dess.
