Guest guest
Dear brothers and sisters in Amma, Someone wrote in the other day and said that the list was too long and so this person could not pray for everyone. I am wondering if the addition of the asya mangalarthat cha phrase at the end of each name is making it too long. I did my prayer group sadhana this Sunday, leaving out the phrase, and noticed it not only took less time to read, but I felt I concentrated on each person's name more. I also want to say that the initial intent of the the Prayer Group was to say a prayer, mantra, chant, etc. of one's choice, knowing that that time devoted included everyone on the list. To me the phrase asya mangalarthat cha is not necessary and could be left out, so the that focus is on the people and the prayer (I personally chant the Maha Mrtumjaya Mantra). I would like to hear back from other people how they feel about this or any comments in general. There is nothing about the Prayer Group that is written in stone, only the intention, written in our hearts to pray sincerely for those needing help. This one simple thing is the kernel of the Prayer Group. Please let me know what you think. Blessings to all ~ Linda
Guest guest
I read the names and don't read the "asya mangalarthat cha." Personally, I think all that is needed is the list of names and a short sentence that these are the people for whom prayers have been requested this week. Leave the rest--what day to say prayers, what prayers to say, etc.-- up to individual group members. I really love the whole thing. I read the names to Amma every day when I say my mantra and ask her to remember them all, heal them, help them, cheer them up. Sometimes I think of other people also who aren't on the list and I add them too. It gives me a chance to help people who are sturggling. I know prayer works and we keep having stories about how our prayers have helped people. More than 150,000 people perished in the recent tsunami. We don't even know their names. Think how long it would take to read all of them and each one deserves our prayerful thoughts as do all their surviving family and friends. Ours is a very short list in my opinion.. Guest guest
Namah Shivaya, Since my computer wasn't set up and I couldn't print out the names I just dedicated my prayers to the people on the list as well as others I was praying for and hoped for the best. I figured that Amma/ God knows the names better than me. It did deprive me of focusing on each name, but with the list expanding that may become difficult. You could always add a one-line note at the bottom about this phrase, if people wish to add it to their practice.
