Guest guest
Namah Shivaya Med First of all let me explain why all of Ammas devotees address each other Namah Shivaya. What this means is 'I bow down to the supreme consciousness with in you' So when we greet each other using the greeting Namah Shivaya we mentally visualize that with in that person there is what is called as the Jeeva Atman. Just like each and every tiny wave is a part of the ocean each one of us has 'a touch of life' which makes the inert elements like carbon, calcium, phosphorous etc that we are made of alive. But for that touch of life in us we would be put in a box and burried underground or burnt to ash depending up on what you follow. Those who love us dearly wont be able to bear the stink of the body even if they decide to keep the body. In Sanatana Dharma, we call that touch of life as the Jeeva Atman. For you and I, this is just a mere theory, but there are human beings who having recognized that the goal in life is not to acquire, possess, embrace wealth and find happiness in outer situations , renounces attachments to external situations and dives deep inside to find out if there is anything there that will provide eternal happiness. By mere thinking and our past experiences itself we can find that this is true. For example, some one might have decided ok if I finish college and get a job I will be happy. When you get a job you find that your colleagues that are not working that much may be getting promotions and that takes away your happiness. Another situation one may decide ok let me change a new job then I will be happy. Each and every action is done to pursue happiness alone. Whether it is getting a new wife or stealing some one elses wealth , any action , if you think of the root cause, it is to be happy. When you have some time do some thinking and see. Amma is some one who has realized the self. What this means is that she has realized that the self in her is the same exact self in me and you and every creation. Suppose by accident a person badly hurts the one of the eyes with a finger. Will the person react and shout at the finger for doing so ? This is because the finger is a part of the person. In the same way Amma has realized that each and every one of us is nothing but her own self. Therefore only love can flow. So to answer the first part of your question Is Amma God , well first of all it would depend on what you have in mind when you say God. A person coming from some part of India would find a food very delicious but the same food if you give it to some one from America or Europe, they may find it unbearable to eat. So it is relative. So when you are asking Is Amma God first you have to explain by what you mean by God. According to Sanatana Dharma not only is Amma God , but even you and I are Gods ! Amma has realized that but you and I have not. >> Of and on i try to read and understand what is "Amma's" role amongst her followers? Is there a reason that you are trying to understand this ? May be that is the question you want to ask. Because to different people it will be different. >> Can someone explain to me, why do you pray to her? Many reasons depending on the person whom you ask, but in general, at some point in peoples life , they find that what they thought would give them happiness is no more giving them happiness. Questions like, is there any real happiness out there ? arises in the mind. I thought if I get 'this' I will be happy but having worked so hard and sacrificed many things for 'this' and finally having got it I dont find myself happy. So in the search for happiness, people come across a 'human being' who is not attached to things we thing are important to be happy. No bother about money, food , sleep , power etc but is still happy all the time. Flowing like a river. People are curious. How can there be such a human being ? It defies all logic and everything that we have learnt so far. Then they find out in theory that she is self realized and that self realization gives us eternal happiness. Today people can say , Oh , Amma has lot of money , she travels in a costly car etc, but what people dont realize is the lack of attachment that Amma has to what ever she has, including her own body. Amma does not care if she travels in a costly car or walks. You have to be with Amma for sometime and you can see that. A person who says oh Amma is making a lot of money by giving darshan, even for a few days can that person do what Amma has been doing now for years. Just a few days, sit in one place keep giving darshan, almost 18 hours a day or even more sometimes, no restroom breaks .... Will there be a person willing to do this with a smiling face for a few days if they will get a million dollars ? Forget doing it for years ... Just for few days .... For those in the group who is looking for a miracle to strengthen their faith, is it not a miracle that Amma gives darshan almost every day with out caring for her food , and rest and sleep ? Think and see if this is a miracle or not ... Coming back to your question "Can someone explain to me, why do you pray to her? " a simple answer is that they find Amma to be like no other human being they have met so far , they get a feeling that they have never felt before. Some feel that Amma will be able to provide to them what no one else can provide. As for me , I know that Amma is God and she has realized that not in theory but practically. So I pray to Amma to lead me along the same path so that I may also realize that the self in me is the self in everyone.
