Guest guest
NEW YORK: A Michigan-based Hindu group has said that Sunday's tsunami tragedy was not a "vengeful act of God." The group, Navya Shastra, in a statement condemned those that described the tsunami as "divine retribution" for the arrest of the Kanchi Shankracharya. The statement quoted Rajarathina Bhattar, a Houston priest, as saying "At times like these, sane voices must prevail." The organisation also called on the global Hindu community to contribute generously "Our religious ideals, enshrined in the Vedas and the Thirukkural, exhort us to give to those in need," said VC Vijayaraghavan, a Navya Shastra member from London.
