Guest guest
Hi. I am a new member to this group. Actually, I just learned about Ammachi for the first time last week. I want to learn more about her for my own personal religious beliefs, but for now I am also doing research about Ammachi for a religion course I am taking (I'm a sophomore at Princeton University). I was wondering if some people in this group might be able to tell me a little bit about their personal experiences with Ammachi? I'm particularly interested in how people who grew up with a different religious tradition found out about Ammachi, and what about her and her message drew you to her, how and how seriously you practice, and just generally what sort of path your personal experience has followed. I'm really grateful for anything anybody could share with me, as while I have learned a lot about the life of Ammachi and her yearly tours and all of the service organizations associated with her, it seems to me that the personal connections people feel with her are so powerful and can very dramatically impact peoples' lives. Thanks again. --Alexis Schaitkin
Guest guest
Hi Alexis. The Fairfield, Iowa satsang has published a book each of the past three summers called "Our Mother of Love & Grace". The book is a compilation of personal stories by devotees. Liz Howard (lizlh) and Kartika Damon (kdamon) create the book. You (and others) may contact them about getting copies, contributing stories to it, etc. on 12/27/04 4:38 PM, Lexyny at Lexyny wrote: > > > Hi. I am a new member to this group. Guest guest
Dear Alexis, if you go to the following web site you will see 3 title headers: Amma ( with different experiences around Amma ), Amritavani and Matruvani, and here you will find stories of people's experiences with Amma. http://archives.amritapuri.org/index.htm For example : Matruvani Sept. 2001 , Amma in My Life, Holly Yellen tells the story of how her family was brought to Amma through her 18-year-old son's car accident. ----------------------------- Also, it might be an idea to contact devotees in the New Jersey satsang groups and listen to their experiences of how Amma has come into, and affected, their lives. The New Jersey satsang info is copied and pasted below. * New Jersey Randolph, New Jersey Contact: Sulekha and Santosh Das 10 Farm Road Randolph, NJ 07869 Tel: 973.361.8084 or 973.428.2460 Email: sulekha Satsang Activities: * Satsang: Every second Sunday from 3:00 - 6:00 pm. Western NJ, New Jersey Contact: Avinash Washington, in Warren County Tel: 908.689.6544 Email: westnjsatsang Satsang Activities: * Satsang: Meets every night 7pm for Scripture Reading, Bhajans, and Meditation. Dinner is served on Saturdays and Sundays at 6pm Carpooling from a pre-determined location is required. Carpools meet each night at 6:30pm. Additional weekend carpool at 5:30pm for dinner. ----------------- --------------------- Also, there are several books in the bookstore at mothersbooks.org , that tell personal experiences with Amma,; i.e.: On the Road to Freedom, Searching for God, The Path of the Mother, Mother and Me, Getting to Joy, etc., etc.... Good luck. Best is to get one's own personal experience. In Amma, sarama / Iceland
