Guest guest
Namah Shivaya: I am on vacation now in Trivandrum, Kerala - I am sure those of you who are outside India are probably apprehensive about the tsunami hitting coastal Kerala. Ample proof of Amma's omniscience is evident in this incident mentioned below, reported to me just hours before by my aunt who had been to the Amritapuri ashram today (Sunday, Dec 26 2004), just before the tsunami hit the area. My aunt was invited by a friend of hers who was going to a temple beyond Amritapuri for an offering. This was totally an unexpected trip, but one cannot pass a chance to meet Amma, so she decided to accompany her friend to the temple and on the way to the ashram as well. Their party of 4 left Trivandrum at around 8:30 am and reached Amritapuri ashram by around 10:30 am. With great difficulty, they managed to obtain the last few tokens for the morning darshan. Amma, who usually doesn't begin the morning darshan until after 10 am, began giving darshan today at 8 am and was in a hurry to finish the program. My aunt's party of four finished the darshan by 11:30 am and left the ashram by the road along the beach. It was reported that the ashram area was hit shortly after 12 noon. It was indeed a narrow escape for my aunt and her group ! My aunt's travel party didn't know at all about the tsunami until after they reached Trivandrum today evening. While returning from the other temple, their driver took the Main Central Road (MC Road, as it is called here in Kerala) instead of the NH 47 - those who are familiar with the roads in Kerala know that the NH47 is a far better route than the MC Road to travel from Amma's ashram to Trivandrum, but somehow Amma silently influenced the driver to take the safer route. If they had taken the straight-forward NH47 route on their way back, they would have been in deep trouble because the highway runs parallel to and close to the coast in many places. Well, this is no surprise for us, devotees of Amma, as most of us have experienced similar events in our lives. It's amazing how Amma plans every event of our lives, with so much precision to avoid greater catastrophes that it sometimes seem like a sheer coincidence to an outsider. Anyway, later on my aunt was told that Amma hurriedly finished all the darshans by around 12 noon and asked most people to evacuate the ashram area and go to the other side of the lake by ferry. Only Herself and a selected few remained at the ashram when the tsunami hit. I also heard that the first 1-2 floors of the ashram is under water. Kerala media reports that the ashram area is one of the hardest hit areas in Alleppey district and an estimated 90+ people are assumed to be killed. Signing off for now. In Amma, Uma. Guest guest
Dear Uma, Namah Shivaya While in India for Amma's 50th. birthday, due to a transportation strike, Amma sent about 100 of us to spend a night with devotees in Trivandrum. They were so kind. I also met a gracious women from Singapore & her children who lived in a house on a beach in Trivandrum. I am hoping they are all right. How did Trivadrum fare, near the airport? Amritapuri's link says that the cows & elephants are on the 2nd. floor of the temple, so I hope they are also well. Thank you for your post. Guest guest
Thanks, Uma. I just copied your message to my professor. We all have friends in Trivandrum. It is far enough from the coast so probably they are okay. Scary. Amma is so amazing! Hey, I thought you were going to relax and gain your health back. Oh well. Maybe appreciating that even in this circumstance our mother is taking care of us can still allow for resting in her arms.
