About two years ago, when I was presenting papers about Amma...before Amaerican Academy of Religion...there was this guy who kept coming to all the presentations....Finally I couldn't stand it anymore and I introduced myself. It turned out that he was the wiccan chaplain to the California prison system...His regular visits with prayer and education about the goddes to men in prison were so successful that, in a major riot in a large California prison the only prisoners who didn't participate int he riot were in his prayer groups... All the brothers and sisters to whom we are writing--except for the woman in Muncy, PA, already knew about Mother and they asked for support or their families asked for support for them. Temba tells all of them about Amma. Now Michael is also telling them and will continue to tell about Amma, about love and service as opposed to whatever they did before. Theirs is not an easy road. They will need tools and support but Amma's grace is helping them look for it... Mother is pouring love and grace into this. It's not about converting people. It's about outreach--no, Heartreach. Dear Aikya ~ I am so glad you shared the story of how the Circle of Love Inside got started. What a wonderful story. Surely this deserves to be shared more broadly, such as an article in "Immortal Bliss" or something. How wonderful the Amma devotees did not riot. I have heard many stories of different people of different faiths or belief systems bringing their beliefs to prisoners. Many of them are highly successful, so obviously they are filling a need. If there was no need, the prisoners would not respond. I see this activity, at least on the part of Amma devotees as sharing, not converting. Guest guest
Hi Linda, Thanks for the suggestion to share the story more broadly. I thought of that with regard to Circle of Love even before we started the work with those currently in prison. Amma designs these adventures you know. We just respond when the news gets to us. I was fumbling around trying to figure out how to get started with a correspondence between Amma devotees and people who are incarcerated. I researched other programs. I wondered what exactly our role could be. I worried about hte naivete of all of us. And then the first brother was referred to us and wrote back that incredible letter telling about his transformation from a murderer to a devotee. It reminded me of the rationalist who came to Devi Bhava to stab Amma and was instantly changed by her sweet smile. Instead of killing her, he cried and asked her forgiveness. The way I know Amma is behind all this is that it is so spontaneous. Amma is dancing...!
