Hi everyone:

Just got back from Kerala,India after three weeks of

vacation.

For whatever reason, Malayalees do not celebrate Deepavali.

No fireworks and festivities like the rest of India. So, in

Kerala, deepavali is celebrated only as "Deepavali Sale" by

stores.

The arrest of Sankaracharya did not upset anyone I came in

contact with, except a few politically religious persons.

Most people I came in contact with, all highly educated,

remarked that if the Tamil Nadu state government decided to

arrest and then if they lost in court, then it would be

disastrous for that state government. Therefore most people

reasoned that there must be some violation of law such as

attempted/alleged suppression of evidence.

Visited the peaceful Amma's Ashram in Palakkad. The hall

was empty. Amma's large portrait could be seen on the

stage. There was no one except a humble devotee at the book

store. I was told that over 100,000 people come there to

see Amma when She visits. But now the grounds were quiet

and empty. Flowers were blooming all around the

Brahmasthana temple. It was green everywhere. My wife and I

could feel Amma's soothing presence.

I have read and re-read Swami Yogagnanda's Autobiography of

a Yogi. Those of you who have read this book would remember

that there was almost a miracle on every page. I used to

think that such days of miracles were over. I used to think

that such miracles existed only in old books. Now I have

come to change my mind. It may be inappropriate to narrate

here the miraclulous experiences of other devotees. I heard

so many stories that were just as astounding as the ones in

Yogagnanda's Autobiography. The department of tourism in

Kerala says that Kerala is "God's own country". After

hearing of all the major and minor miracles from so many

persons I felt that it is indeed so.
