At the very very end there was an interpreter speaking about Amma's conversation with the devotees up front. Something about a conch shell and the meat inside? Dear Amma family, Nor was I there. But Mother does talk generally about the imagery of "becoming like a flute" or emptying oneself of the ego, like one has to do with a conch's meat in order to make sound on it. She has personally advised this child to do this, become empty, several times. p's Q: When will I see Sri Krishna Bhagavan? Amma's A: Become like a flute and Krishna will come running. My ongoing protest is: how? Tell me how? Of course she does generally - sadhana, archana, japa, IAM, satsang, being sweet, developing compassion, etc. - yet I am so lazy and am overcome by so many vasanas. It's like the master chef has given a recipe, and I don't want to follow the cookbook! So if anyone present has a chance to elaborate on the conversation, or their recollection thereof, I'm also quite interested to hear another nuance on that imagery. Could not find in my notes something She said about it this past summer tour. And maybe someone else has a page from Awaken Children or another of the ashram books about the conch image. But I did find this in my notes, I think from Swamini Krishnamritananda's NYC satsang July 18, 2004: "The ego is the greatest obstacle on the spiritual path... Trying to see it is like trying to see your eyeball. You need a miracle. That is the Guru." Hoping to look in that mirror in a few days in Ann Arbor, by Mother's will and grace.
