During the confrontation, turn inward to Amma and know that She is there with you. She will help you to find the right words." Dear Prajna ~ I found everything that you wrote to be inspiring, but the above especially struck me like a bolt of lightning because I am very sensitive and am too open to other people's negativity. I really like what Swami said to you, and I am going to print it out and keep a copy. As a line monitor, how have you felt about people like me, who are ill, but where the illness is not visible. I don't mind waiting a long time; I just can't do it on the floor with the main group of people. And as my Fibromyalgia has gotten so much worse, I wonder how long I will be able to wait before the pain, fatigue, and bloating of my tummy start up. Someone who doesn't have this illness just cannot understand that doing anything, even sitting, for longer than 30 or 40 minutes causes my body to totally "crash." So this will be a challenge for me too, if I am lucky enough to make it to Santa Fe to see Amma this summer. Thank you for all your good thoughts and sharing ~ Linda

Guest guest
Dear Prajna, Linda and all, I just returned from visiting Mother for a few days in San Ramon. It was wonderful beyond words to be there. I'm not just complaining or being overly sensitive (Which I have to admit I am) when I voice my concerns about some sick people trying to have Mother's darshan. One has to have what is to me, tremendous physical stamina to make it to Mother's physical feet. There are so many people trying to have Mother's darshan now that one really has to jump through hoops. In the morning they give out tokens, but if you have had Darshan this Fall they tell you to come back in 3-4 hours to see if you can get a token, then tell you to come back 2 hours later to see if you can get a token. Then tell you that you cannot have a token that day. I think that it has pretty much come down to having one or so darhans per Mother's visit, unless a person is otherwise lucky. This still does not take into consideration that there are people who simply cannot be there for a long time without causing themselves physical harm. Yesterday I encountered a woman who was obviously severely chemically sensitive, could not be in the hall for long, and was trying to communicate with an otherwise very nice hall monitor who just did not "get" the problem. It was all very sad to me. How one differentiates between an impatient person, and a person who is in severe physical distress is beyond me. Also, when one is very ill the tendency is to become overly sensitive, or crabby, etc. A person in a wheel chair may be able to wait for hours, whereas a person with an invisible disability may be able to wait for half an hour. (I'm not making any judgments here.) I remember once "in the early days" being so sick that I was literally in and out in 5 minutes. Those days are long gone. I think that for some of us it comes down to trying to just be in Mother's presence without killing ourselves...... or just paying the price. Now I am going to go lie down and think about my Beloved. Guest guest
Every time I attend one of Mother's visits and get my darshan token, I remember how lucky I was to have met her 8 or 9 years ago -- when the wait was only 3 or 4 hours for darshan and one could have Mother's darshan twice a day (once in the morning program and once again in the evening). And, would you believe that, at that time, I thought that 3 hours was an interminable wait? Also Mother's throwing of flower petals after Devi Bhava usually occurred at about 3 a.m., and I thought, "Oh my God, I have to stay awake in the hall until 3 a.m.?" That was nothing! Now the end of Devi Bhava is long after day has dawned, and I haven't managed to stay awake that long for several years. Many times, the crush of people, just in getting in and out of the hall is almost to the point of being frightening (and I'm not particularly claustrophobic). We were just so fortunate to have met Mother years ago and to enjoy her presence with only moderate crowds there!!! I think so often of what a blessing, when Mother used to leave the hall walking through the lines of devotees and touching their hands on her way out. That, too, hasn't happened in a long time -- but what wonderful memories of Amma. And how wonderful that She continues to do this, at all. Every year, it must become more and more difficult for her.
