Guest guest
Greetings all, I will be attending the retreat in Michigan next week, and I am wondering what should I bring? What kind of clothing should I wear, should I wear white as that is the common color? Should I bring a change of clothes each day, what kind of shoes? Should I bring my Amma doll, or would it be difficult to carry and keep up with. Tell me anything you can think of. I am staying offsite, so I have those kinds of things taken care of. Just for the retreat days is what I am wondering about. Guest guest
You can wear white if you wish, and many do, but it's not required (although it is requested for certain kinds of hall seva, just so you're more easily recognized). Don't worry about shoes, as you'll need to remove them at the entrance to the program hall. Bring your Amma doll if you like! You'll see quite a few people with them floating around! Hope this helps, Iswari Ammachi, DB <dises@c...> wrote: > Greetings all, > > I will be attending the retreat in Michigan next week, and I am wondering > what should I bring? Guest guest
Hi, Bring shoes that you can slip on and off easily. Definitely bring your Amma doll, if you feel that you want to. Lots of folks do. If you're going to do seva, etc. you can always leave it in your room for a program. I'd suggest bringing whatever clothes you are very comfortable in, white or not. You're right that a lot of people do wear white, but it's not required (though, some seva coordinators ask that you wear white for certain types of seva, where dealing with the public-at-large). If you have a back jack or something similar, be sure to bring that. I also bring a bottle for water, that I bring into the hall with me. Most of all, have fun!! Don't forget to bring sneakers or closed-toe shoes (i.e. not sandals or flip-flops) for seva purposes. > Definitely bring > your Amma doll, if you feel that you want to. Lots > of folks do. Like me! I take my doll with me to all the programs, unless she wants to stay in the hotel room and watch football games on the tube It's my Amma doll's third "birthday".. Got her at the 2001 Ann Arbor retreat! If your doll needs minor repairs, such as a replacement mala or nose ring, they can do that at the retreat. If you have the Bhajanamritam song books and recent supplements (2002, 03, 04), bring them and you can be ready with the words for any bhajan Amma and the swamis throw at you. A lot of people, westerners included, will be wearing traditional Indian gear such as pyjama kurtas, saris and salwar kammeez. Where else but Amma retreats and South Indian temples can I wear a skirt? OK, a dhoti But sure looks like a skirt to most people. Someone once asked me what I wear under it? I said "the same thing a Scotsman wears under his kilt!!" Keval Meet the all-new My - Try it today!
