Some of our folks may not be dying but they need prayers. Dear Aikya ~ this is interesting, because it was also what I thought. However, when I first saw Karunamayi (at the very beginning of my illness, which I didn't even mention), one of her devotees gave me a tape with her singing the Mahamrtyunjaya mantra. That was over 15 years ago! And here I am. In the other group, people who ask for prayer, need them for all kinds of difficulties, and, yes, sometimes it is an illness and sometimes a potentially fatal one, but the majority are needing prayer for other reasons. So ... it sounds like a lot of people are interested in doing this prayer group. We could pick a different mantra if the group prefers or use the MM mantra (as we call it in the other group). I guess once we have seen how many are interested, someone needs to volunteer to coordinate the prayer group. I might be interested in this if no one else is. I'd like to hear from the group how they feel about using the MM Mantra or if they want to use something else, and what suggestions they have. In our other group, we chant the mantra 21 times after reading the list of names we are praying for. Jai Ma ~ Linda
Guest guest
I'd like to hear from the group how they feel about using the MM Mantra or if they want to use something else, and what suggestions they have. The MM Mantra is very powerful & my vote is for using it. I've heard it's practically an all purpose mantra for protection, healing the earth, or? Another teacher suggested 27x a day, maybe because 3x9=27. When praying for people, I'v begun with 3 OMs & the Dhyana Sloka. Then added the "Asato Ma" & "Om Lokah" chants. Guest guest
It's a Vedic mantra which, alas, is usually chanted wrong. Just goes to show you how laid back Lord Shiva is. What do we need to ask Amma regarding this prayer "group?" I can't imagine Amma being opposed to our praying for people. We can ask Amma what mantra to chant and ask for her blessing on the idea... We have to figure out how to do the prayer request. My suggestion is that someone on the become the person who collects prayer requests. Then they can post the names and reasons prayer is needed to the list. Anybody who wants to pray for the people, or say at the start of their prayers that they are offered for the people on the list can do so and read the names. Whoever is doing the posting would have to decide whether they could post daily or weekly. After a few posts, people would realize who was collecting prayer requests I think but the end of the message containing the list could be a reminder to send that person any prayer requests privately. Dear Aikya ~ I think it is a great idea to speak to one of the Swamis about this, and even to see if he can speak with Amma and get her blessing. Like you say, I can't imagine anyone being opposed. In the other digest the prayer group moderator posts a request to the digest on Wednesday that everyone email her privately with the names they want included (our group does not include reasons). Then on Friday or Saturday morning, she again posts to the digest all the names that were given to her. After that it is up to the participants. We pray on Saturday, which is why I suggested Friday or Sunday for our group. And, once again, I would be happy to coordinate, if no one else is eager to do so. Guest guest
I'm sure it's not a question of anyone believing that Amma could be opposed to a prayer group, but rather how much stronger our prayers will be with Amma's blessing! And I do feel it'd be a good idea to ask for Her guidance about the best way for us to proceed. =) Namah Shivaya, Iswari Ammachi, nierika@a... wrote: > What do we need to ask Amma regarding this prayer "group?" Guest guest
Aum Amriteswaryai Namah. Dear everyone, I would like to bring an incident which happened here in our prayer group in Abu Dhbai/UAE few years back....say 1999/2000. We were thinking of doing something new among our group to have participation from all the devotees and their family members. The only activity at that time was to come for weekly prayer and chant AMMA's Ashtotharanamavali, LSN Stotram, and 7-8 Bhajans, Arati and Shanthi Mantra. So we decided to utilize the extra Holidays during the year for some special functions. The special functions were, 24 Hours Akhanda Nama Japam of a particular mantra (Continous chanting of Mantra with out a break for 24 Hours), LSN Stotram (Verses) Akhanda Nama Japa, LSN Namavali Vilakku Pooja (Individual Chanting of the LSN). So first Holiday was nearing and we planned for a 24 Hrs Akhanda Nama Japa. But no idea which Mantra to take....Some said "Aum Namah Shivaya" ....some "Aum Namo Bhagavathe Vasudevaya"...... some said "Mahamruthyunjaya Mantra".....some said "Aum Amriteswaryai Namah" and so many other proposals came in....as we were from different family background and level of spirituality and the end result......... we totally got confused which one to select for chanting. So we decided to approach Ashram and check with Swamiji (Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri) who is in charge of Middle east activities. Can you guess what his reply was....???? "Aum Amriteswaryai Namah" Then onwards we always ways use the above Mantra for all the special prayers....even some one is sick, some one getting married, for someone a new baby is born, to get well soon, to help the children to do well in their exams.................for everything..... I would propose since we are all AMMA devotees and this list is meant for AMMA why not take Aum Amriteswaryai Namah......the powerful Mantra and get blessing from our Divine Universal Mother Sri Sri Amritanandamayi Devi, the living God and progress in our spiritual path..... Guest guest
Aikya wrote: The idea of using "Om Amriteshwaryai namah" is good. I would furthere recommend that people can do any prayer to which they have devotion and faith as an option. The important thing is that those interested in participating would express the intention that the prayers--whatever they were--would be for those people for whome prayers had been requested. Then they could either say "Om Amriteshwaryai namah" or any other prayer to which they had devotion or faith. It seems what prayer it is is less important than the fact that prayers, any old kind of prayers--even puja-- are being said for the people. What do you think? Dear Aikya ~ I agree ~ Linda
