Is it appropriate to ask Amma for a sankalpa for my step mother's recovery, and if so, what is the procedure? Dear Porajna ~ do you want the sankalpa for yourself? A sankalpa is a great resolve in doing a task such as some type of sadhana. If you want to ask Amma to help your mother, perhaps it is simpler just to tell Her the situation and ask for Her grace for your mother. I am no expert on these matters. This is just a thought based on my own personal experience. For the group: in another digest to which I belong, there is an offline prayer group. On Thursday, the coordinator writes in the digest asking people to send them the names of anyone they want on the prayer list and also if they will participate in the praying. On Friday, she posts the list to the digest, so all participants have a copy. Then on Saturday, everyone who participates makes a sankalpa that they are chanting for each of these people (I read each name) and then chants the Mahamrtumjaya Mantra 21 times. I am wonderfing if this group would like a prayer project such as this. Jai Maa ~ Linda

Guest guest
I love this idea...and I have a list of people to pray for. Mahamrtyunjaya mantra is usually done for people who are very seriously ill, at the point of death. Some of our folks may not be dying but they need pryayers.
