Namah Shivaya. question to everyone. what is the GURU MANTRA? is it the mantra that the Guru gave you, or the mantra by which the Guru is saluted? I thought Guru mantra (where Amma is the Guru) meant: OM AMRITESHWARYAI NAMAH. AND THAT The mantra that Amma gave me would be, for lack of a better word, MY MANTRA. Sorry if this question is dry and technical, but I would like to keep this clear in my head: what are the correct "labels" for the two different mantras? Jai Ma! Guest guest
Manoj: I think both can mean Guru mantra(some gurus initiate into a lot of mantras, so here Guru mantra would mean mantra dedicated to the Guru); Guru mantra as far as Amma is concerned is the mantra into which Amma initiates you. Vijayji: I think Guru mantra is all that you need; Amma has said that whatever sankalpa you give for the japa, that will be fruit of japa; but certainly no harm results from japa of Mrityumjaya and only good results. If all we had to do was to chant one mantra alone, then we could dispense with the peace chant, food chant. poojas to the planets etc but Amma has not said that. I think the reason why Amma does not go around asking all to chant different mantras is that lot of people have a tough time chanting the Guru mantra itself, so why add to their load:-). -yogaman > Ammachi, "Arun" <mydeararunraj> wrote: > > > > > > Aum Amriteswaryai Namah! > > > > But, dear brother Vijay, lemme put it straight, there is NO MANTRA > in > > this universe more effective than the GURU MANTRA. > > Namah Shivaya. > > question to everyone. > > what is the GURU MANTRA? is it the mantra that the Guru gave you, or > the mantra by which the Guru is saluted? > > I thought Guru mantra (where Amma is the Guru) meant: OM > AMRITESHWARYAI NAMAH. > > AND THAT > > The mantra that Amma gave me would be, for lack of a better word, MY > MANTRA. > > Sorry if this question is dry and technical, but I would like to > keep this clear in my head: what are the correct "labels" for the > two different mantras? > > Jai Ma! Guest guest
Namah shivaya Manoj, Arun, Vijay , My 2c- The Guru mantra is the mantra that Amma gave you . Of course some people I know have asked Amma for a 'guru mantra' meaning a mantra dedicated to Amma , even after receiving another mantra from Amma. BUT generally speaking the Guru mantra is the mantra that Amma gave you ,. And yes, I too agree with what Vijay says- there is NO substitute for the mantra that Amma gave us, and no greater protection than that. There are very very powerful mantras like the Gayatri and the Mahamrityunjaya- but the mantra Amma gave you is equal to these mantras and as effective in protecting you as any of these mantras. I specifically asked Amma a question about the difference between the Gayatri mantra( which is considered the Mother of all mantras) and Amma's own mantra ( a mantra dedicated to Her present form). Amma replied ' There is no difference.'. When Amma gives us a mantra She , as Vijay says, imparts a part of Her spiritual energy within us. She makes a sankalpa for our spiritual progress and let us not forget- we are at that moment receiving a mantra from Devi Herself. What can be greater than that? The mantra that we got from Amma is more than enough for everything . Of course mantras like the Gayatri and the MahaMrityunjaya will also help and protect but once we get a mantra from Amma that alone should be our main mantra, our focus and our sadhana. Also there is a question of adhikarai and whom who are receiving the mantra from ...to put it briefly, receing a mantra from a being like Amma is perhaps the greatest gift we can ask for at the present moment. bala Ammachi, "Arun" <mydeararunraj> wrote: > > > Aum Amriteswaryai Namah! > > But, dear brother Vijay, lemme put it straight, there is NO MANTRA in > this universe more effective than the GURU MANTRA. Guest guest
Hi Bala, Namah Shivaya. Always a pleasure to hear from you. Ammachi, balakrishnan Shankar <balakrishnan_sh> wrote: > Namah shivaya Manoj, Arun, Vijay , > > My 2c- > > BUT generally speaking the Guru mantra is the mantra that Amma gave you ,. Also, one last question: is there a "label" or "identifier" for this mantra? I agree with you and Arun that the mantra we get from Amma is good enough for our purposes, and we need not look at other mantras as that would be a distraction from our sadhana. But, the reason we are talking about the Mrityunjaya Mantra was not because it is being advocated to be chanted regularly by everybody, but because it came up in another discussion, and the resulting info on the Mrityunjaya mantra was more of an FYI. > > bala Jai Ma! Guest guest
Manoj A clarification- By saying that Amma's mantra is as potent as the Gayatri or other mantras, I am referring to the mantra that Amma has initiated you in . OM ARITHESHWARYAI NAMAHA is a generic mantra that Amma devotees chant while praying to Amma. But i am referring to the mantra that Amma gives you during your mantra initiation. That mantra may be any mantra- to Amma, Krishna, Christ or the Formless . That is what i mean by Amma's mantra. But in any case, as an answer to your question- yes- if chanted with faith and devotion Om Amritheshwaryai namah is as potent as any other. Even more so, if you receive it from Amma as your personal mantra. The key is receiving the mantra from Amma. The point about mantras that mantras have to be received from a SatGuru , or someone who has the siddhi of that particular mantra. Merely reading a mantra from a book and learning it from there will be effective but not as powerful as when you get it from a SatGuru.
