Guest guest
Hi All, Tonight Dayamrita Swami was in town to celebrate Amma's birthday with the local satsang. We thought the evening was starting with the traditional pada puja, but Dayamrita announced it would be last, as that would coincide with the exact time it was being done in India for real. So we started with the 1,000 Names, followed by a really nice talk by Dayamrita. I didn't ask him if I could reproduce it here, but with the list's indulgence, I'll try to do so. I apologize for any mistakes. Celebration is the remembrance of our true self. Amma was not bound by the thread of karma when She incarnated. By remembering Her birthday, we are celebrating changelessness. We are expressing gratitude that She is here with us for our birthdays. She chose to be born among us to relieve us of our karmas. He told the story of Amma's going into samadhi when She first went into the Ganges. It was so cold in the water that everyone else in the party got out of the water quickly! Amma stayed in and sang for a while, then became silent. She held onto a pole in the river because of the swift current. After an hour and a half (?) or so, some of the brahamacharinis went into the water and picked Amma up and carried Her to the land, where they wrapped her in blankets, and massaged her feet, etc., trying to bring her back to earthly consciousness. (The brahmacharini doctor felt and said there was no pulse for 4 hours! She said, "She is gone." meaning that Amma was dead, and everyone was very sad.) First Amma began to move her hands and feet, then gradually she began to talk. When they asked Her about the incident, She told them they were really stupid to take Her out of the water, as all the discarnate beings were coming to Her and She was giving them darshan while she was in the water. She wasn't finished with darshan when they took Her out of the water. Today (Amma's b-day) is a reminder to all of us that we are going to become FREE! Count your blessings, not your misfortunes. Amma is our friend, family, and only true support. Dayamrita said he is so fortunate to be where he is, surrounded by all his brothers and sisters. Amma will take as many births as needed to free us. This is also a day of peace. Peace starts with ourselves. Dayamrita said that recently he had been thinking that perhaps he should go into seclusion to meditate rather than doing what he's doing. He was afraid to ask Amma about this because She might laugh at him or make fun of him. This illusion of retreating was dispelled when a friend called him from Amritapuri and told him about a satsang question there. Someone asked what relationship serving the guru had to liberation. Amma said that if one really serves the guru with their whole mind and body, we don't need to do anything else. Liberation will follow you like a dog! May we all find liberation. May this be our final birth. Then we had bhajans, followed by pada puja and arati. After satsang, I also asked Dayamrita why Amma would tell us something that would frighten her children. (He had earlier very graciously agreed to answer my questions.) He said that it was Amma's compassion to let us know ahead of time that something will happen and let us be prepared. I asked how we could be prepared, and he said mentally and emotionally. In response to my question about how we could physically be prepared, he said we "could" buy some cans of food if we want. I did not get the sense that he was advocating it. He also said we are praying to Amma to lessen the severity, as She will not interfere with the karma that will cause it. So, I hope this is interesting to folks. In Amma's love, Jyotsna
Guest guest
Dear Jyotsna, thank you so much for taking your time to write this. You must have lost some sleep time. It is very, very interesting and helpful. I have seen this on video,so it was fantastic to hear the story of this incident : "He told the story of Amma's going into samadhi when She first went into the Ganges. " the following is so very true: > This is also a day of peace. Peace starts with ourselves.> " Amma said that if one really serves the guru with their whole mind and body, we don't need to do anything else. Liberation will follow you like a dog! " "May we all find liberation. May this be our final birth." Thank you so much for this service to us. Your sister in Amma, Sarama J. Guest guest
Hi, for me this birthday dates is really something, a good leela of Amma. Some days ago our Satsang group (Germany-Heidelberg) planned to celebrate Amma's birthday, then we heard it would be on Oct. 1st, so we planned to celebrate with the Frankfurt Group on Sat 2nd. Then we heard it should be Sept. 27th which is not so practical . So we will celebrate as planned. But for my wife and me yesterday turned out to be some kind of celbration. We were in another town (Dormagen, 3hrs drive north), we have to clear up the flat of my wife's aunt (she died in August) and that's really a lot of work. We had a beautiful indian meal in a 'normal' german restaurant (owned by a nice indian lady) it was actually what she's cooking for herself and later, before driving home my wife insisted on a stop at the nearby monastery ( a beatiful place with an old statute of Mother Mary) and good energy. There happened to be an orchestra probing. That was very beautiful, even only probing. So we had a feeling of celebration even within lots of work. ammaslotus <ammaslotus wrote: Namah Shivaya When is the day of Her actual birthday this year? Does anybody know?
