You can find the Sanskrit text and translation on page 47 of the 2002 bhajan supplement, but I don't know if they have it on a CD or audiotape sung by Amma. However the "other" Amma, Karunamayi, has a CD "Learn Sri Mahishasura Mardini Stotram" (go to www.karunamayi.org and click on "shop"), which I would recommend. If you listen to Karunamayi sing bhajans, stotrams and kirtans, you will know why she is believed to be an incarnation of Saraswati. Guest guest
Namah Shivaya. The chant is available on the new ³Chants² CD. When I ordered it, it wasn¹t yet in the online bookstore catalogue. But you can write info and ask for it. Be sure you specify that you want the CD with that on it. It also has 108 Names, Guru Stotra and other basic chants. OK. Seems like it¹s time to offer this through the list. The version in the 2001 Supplement is out of date. The men and women at Amritapuri were chanting different versions. Different leaders were chanting different versions. So Amma had Swami Shantiamrita talk to various pundits and come up with one version for all to use. We got a copy from the Ashram and my beloved husband spent many hours unraveling the version and transliterating it into a very usable form. This is a great practice! Chicago satsang has just started doing it. My husband, for some reason, was very repelled by it for a year (since I came back from AV50 and was doing it here daily). When Amma did it at RI retreat, I was in ecstasy and it was all he could do to keep from running out of the hall. But on Tuesday, as part of our Peace Day celebrations, he did it with us for the first time and he reported that he had this warm feeling in his head, which he really liked, and since then he¹s been doing it with me every morning! Jai Ma!!!!! Would be glad to send the file to those who request. If it¹s too many, will request that we do it by a chain. love to all in Amma¹s grace, premarupa Aum Amriteshvaryai Namah

Karunamayi's version of this stotram is a little different from Ammachi's. There are only 20 slokas, not 21, in the version sung by Karunamayi.. Sloka 9 (beginning with "Suralala na tatatho tatatho bhina yotara nrtyatrate/") isn't sung for some reason. Also, the melody is slightly different. Nonetheless, I would still recommend the Mahishasura Mardini CD by Karunamayi just to get a taste of her beautiful sweet voice. The Toronto satsang group was singing this stotram during the Toronto devi bhava. Practiced it for quite some time in the weeks leading up to Amma's tour. Maybe we will sing it again next year. though I wouldn't mind singing the Hanuman Chalisa for Amma.
