Guest guest
Am I out of line to say that there seems to be entirely too much bickering in this group of late, especially considering the group’s emphasis and in light of Amma? It seems as though some of the recent "conversations" changed tenor, from tame discourse to argumentative. Just a thought...in love. Me vote. - Register online to vote today! Guest guest
Namah Shivaya dear Listers in Amma. Yes, it was sounding a little like the squabbling of tired and hungry siblings. Not the first time on this list. This aunty was considering jumping in. But then it seemed to transcend on its own, by Amma's grace. Some spiritual time out was taken, some lovely conciliation and consolation was offered. Suddenly we¹re all back in Her lap, well fed and better rested. The process here is testimony to Her abiding love and amazing mentoring. Jai Amma! With lots of love in Her grace, premarupa Aum Amriteshvaryai Namah > > Am I out of line to say that there seems to be entirely too much bickering in > this group of late, especially considering the group’s emphasis and in light > of Amma? > > > > It seems as though some of the recent "conversations" changed tenor, from tame > discourse to argumentative. > > > > Just a thought...in love. > > > > Me > > > > > vote. - Register online to vote today! > > > > > > > > Aum Amriteswarayai Namaha! > Links > > > > > YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY It¹s Kenna! Guest guest
I was especially upset by Mike/ Keval's assertions that President Bush has surrounded himself with "Jewish neo-con chicken hawks," and his implication that Indians were somehow involved with the destruction of the World Trade Center. And this is a List moderator? I don't want insulting negative political opinions about Jews and Indians on a List devoted to Ammachi. Who do I complain to? -- Len/ Kalipadma On Thu, 23 Sep 2004 09:21:34 -0700 (PDT) smith john <noothername2001 writes: > > Am I out of line to say that there seems to be entirely too much > bickering in this group of late, especially considering the group’s > emphasis and in light of Amma? > > > > It seems as though some of the recent "conversations" changed tenor, > from tame discourse to argumentative. > > > > Just a thought...in love. > > > > Me > ______________ Get your name as your email address. Guest guest
A moderator is one who - guess what - one who presents his view in moderation. Obviously Kevalji doesn't quite fit the bill. - <kalipadma <Ammachi> Friday, September 24, 2004 11:50 AM Re: Tenor of group participants > > I was especially upset by Mike/ Keval's assertions that President Bush > has surrounded himself with "Jewish neo-con chicken hawks," and his > implication that Indians were somehow involved with the destruction of > the World Trade Center. Guest guest
Namah Shivaya, I think maybe one good approach here would be to implement (or re- implement) a rule, not rigidly enforced but nonetheless generally heeded, about getting too off-topic with political discussion. There is a time and place for eveything. Maybe if Satsangis want to discuss off-topic things, from politics to music to whatever, there could be a spin-off group created. It can be very interesting to discuss such things with with others who share our religious beliefs. Also, while I generally come down on the side of "free and open exchange of views", I also understand that some, even a majority, may desire a predominantly devotional, respectful atmophere here. And that is fine. Again, a time and place for everything. It is important to discuss doubts and concerns openly, but not in the middle of a puja. For the same reason, when I go on retreat, I don't like to get involved in a bunch of extraneous activity. I can totally understand the need for "sacred spaces" on the internet. This group serves such a role for me and many others. I don't know what the concensus is regarding the guidelines in this group, but I will mention that a few months ago I created another where any and all points of view are welcome regarding Amma and anything related to her. That group is called "Ammachi Free Speech Zone", URL: ammachi_free_speech_zone/ . That group's only guidelines are: -- 1) remain loosely on topic (discussions of other teachers or groups, or psychology or religion generally, are fine and welcome). -- 2) please try to be civil with one another and avoid excessive spamming, flaming or trolling, in the generally understood sense of these terms. The internet is a big place, and there's plenty of room for all kinds of lists, all of which have their "dharma". Please don't misunderstand me and think that I'm "trolling" for members for the other group. I don't mean to do that at all. I'm just putting out the idea that we can think of the internet as a series of different "rooms", some of which could be see as being more like a temple, and others more like a coffeehouse. Each serves a role. I hope that I've expressed these thoughts cogently and not in an offensive way, in the spirit of Amma who says she "does not want to harm anyone's faith". Guest guest
Hi, I rise to Keval's defense! No one has to take his posts personally. I don't, even though I rarely agree with them. Over the years I've grown rather fond of the fella. I suspect that Keval probably is somewhat moderating his views for this board:). Guest guest
Hi, I AGREE with everything Jyotsna wrote, and thank her post and for defending Keval. Also, I thank him for being co-moderator. Jeanne is now heading for Florida, and we do not know Kandar's situation. Personally, I am glad that the co-moderator is a Canadian. In Amma, Sarama J. Thanks for the words of support.. yes I do have some really politically incorrect views that you won't read on this list! > > Jyotsna > > Ravi Bharadwaj <ravibharadwaj wrote: > A moderator is one who - guess what - one who > presents his view in > moderation. Actually one of the moderator's main jobs is to cut off further postings on a thread that has gotten out of hand or degenerated into off-topic petty bickering. I've asked that the discussions of whether the $12,000 "renunciate fee" is a blatant rip-off stop. The moderator also has to prevent spammers from posting their digital dreck; over the past few months I have booted several would-be spammers who attempted to join this list and push everything from kiddie porn to lingam-enlargement potions.
