Namah Shivaya

I have heard of one case, when the person( a westerner) had NO money to pay

for his renunciate fee, and Amma asked him to join the ashram anyway and not

worry about money.

Also i have seen Amma call a few people to join the ashram there anyway in

various capacities- they didnt pay a fee , but they work for Amma's various

educational/charitable projects for free thus becoming Her ashram residents.

Some time ago a friend of mine joined Amma's ashram/educational institution.

He offerred to work for free- but Amma insisted that he take a salary from the

institution just because he had some personal financial committments. Thus not

only did he NOT pay any fee- but he is actually getting paid !

Yes if you want to go there, and NOT work for any institution like AIMS etc,

and just want to stay there yes you most probably will have to pay the fee .

But even then , Amma will find a way for out if you ask Her for help.

Also, we should try and develop the attitude that all our money, and

possessions and even our body and mind is God's/Amma's to start with. Where is

the question of offering Her anything, when everything we have , including

ourselves is Hers ?

Finally, Amma knows best what we should be doing etc. Amma is easily the most

compassionate selfless being on the planet right now, and Amma is our mother.

Therefore let us just trust Her.

That IS funny. If you already renounced, you have nothing to renounce with.

Dear Bala,

I am really curious/wonder to know, why you did not renunciate since you

explain about the same very nicely. I wish to tell to everybody that Amma is a

person with good heart. But by telling fearful stories and preaching false

stories, please don't let her value go down.

Dear OTA,

You are RIGHT. International students come here for the good

education and earning power that comes with that good education.

However, I disagree that most of these students come from richer

families. I understand that you were probably making a

generalization, but others should be aware that some families save

everything that they can, or even put ancestral property up as

collateral, and take out loans, etc. to pay for school here in the

US. I suppose I understand the reasoning behind raising rates for

international students (want to keep the enrollment of such students

under control), but I also feel gouged by that, as I am currently

paying my husband's debt from school. We are also sending money to

India to pay off the loans there. He came here for his masters and it

was not free. Yes, he had an assistantship, but that did not cover

100%.

And yes, he is still unemployed, almost two years later.

But he came here and got something sooo much better than even a

masters degree. He got me! :D

I don't think that the renunciate fee is a lot to ask for a lifetime

of room and board. But I don't understand the comparison between

Indian cost of living and the cost of living here in USA. If one were

to look at this cost of living as a percentage vs. the actual number,

we would see that the cost of living here in US is similar to

elsewhere in the world. But if you look at it as being $13,000 for

one year, it'll seem like it's too much.

I don't understand this way of thinking when people come here to the

US from other countries. It's impossible to think of things in terms

of how many Rs. something would cost. I'm sure that if the average

software engineer converted his/her salary to Rs, they'd be singing a

different tune all together.

Sorry that my msg got so far off-topic!

With love,

Erica
