A Thought on Amma

I have "known" of Amma for just over 3 years now. And been to 2

retreats. During that time I have done much analysis and gone thru a

lot of changes like many of us. Yet, I see that many go to Amma for

what they want and NOT for what Amma has to offer. Life itself is

full of complexities and though we all wish it was easy... for many

of us it is not. It seems to be a constant stream of headaches, in

one way or another, that we sometimes wonder if it will all end one

day. Amma keeps telling us not to worry about mundane things and to

do our duty in life. Sure .. it is easy enough to say that but we

still have to go thru the motion of life itself. Amma has given us

ways to bypass whatever difficulties arises in life. Chanting,

Meditation, Satsang, listening to Bhajans.. etc., but most of all

realizing that Amma is in our hearts and soul and that whatever

happens is for the good of us no matter how it may seem at the

moment. Amma is ALWAYS there. If we take a step towards her in doing

what is expected of us then Amma will take a 1,000 steps towards us.

As Amma is ever BLISS we can take a lesson in that itself. For bliss

is our true nature. Anything else is just of the mind. How we see it

and how we react to it. Oh I have my problems in life also but

knowing that Amma is always there makes it more FUN to resolve it

knowing that one day it will not be there. Do you remember the

problems you had 1,000 lifetimes ago or 500 or 100 or 50 0r 10

lifetimes ago? NO! And so it shall be with this lifetime and on

future lifetimes if it so happen to be. The purpose in life in not to

go on and on and on but to realize the Divinity in us so that we may

attain the Oneness that is OUR heritage. Amma has given us the

way ... yet how many apply it? One day we all will ... till then ..

will our minds dictate what is or will we do our part as Amma wishes

us to do? We ourselves can only decide there.

Alexander -- Good thoughts. It's also good, I think, to be

realistic about where we're at. I don't dwell in the non-dual

disposition with much clarity or regularity, and to be honest do

place the well-being of myself, wife and kid at a higher level than

the rest of my fellow Earthlings. So yes, I do pray to God and Amma

for my family's health and peace and prosperity. I like being on a

path where there's a little "earth magic" to take care of worldly

matters, and I love and respect Amma for the care and interest she

shows toward her devotees. The "Mother" thing is nice, you know?

Friends in high places. Yes, I also practice with expanding the

love and commitment I have for my family toward others, but

undeniably, there is some self-interest in my motivations. And even

if I were enlightened, looking after them would still be

my "dharma"; who else would do it? So ... I keep my eyes open to my

motivations, but also don't worry about my "selfish altruism" too

much. I'm aware of it, and will grow beyond it in time, as will we

all.
