Guest guest
Jai Lisa: I've considered Kuwait airlines, although I'm always concerned with flying into the Middle East with state of the world today, do you think this is safe for an American? ----------------------------- I took this route in 2000 on Kuwait Airlines fron JFK, Heathrow, Kuwait, Trivandrum. No problems except the seats are a tad smaller. On the return, the flight from Kuwait to Heathrow left Kuwait 1.5 hours before the one arriving from Trivandrum so I had a 22 hour layover in the hotel by the airport in Kuwait. Schedules may have changed by now. I took this route because (1) is was cheaper; (2) it avoided flying into Delphi or Mumbai. Most flights arrive around midnight to 3:00 am and these airports are not the best at that hour. Flights out to TRV leave about 6 or 7 am. Delhi and Mumbai have a higher level of luggage theft. If you take a route like this, be sure to take a chain and lock to fasten your luggage to something solid to avoid theft. Don't doze ... kept your wits about you ... not easy to do after a long flight from the US. The Kuwait airport is beautiful and has shower facilities (pack soap and a towel), etc. Since I didn't leave the airport, safety was not a factor. Now a days, it may not be that secure. The hotel there was very comfortable. Meals were good ... lunch was the same as dinner ... no recreation facilities to speak of. Only thing on TV in English is CNN and 2 minutes of that is enough! The energy from the pounding barking of news broadcasters is something I can well do without. Take a good book! .. My preference, next time, is to have a day or two rest in London and maybe fly directly to India to avoid the middle east altogether. However, arriving in the wee hours is not to my liking. Whether anyplace is "safe" these days is a question mark. My opinion is that the Kuwait airport is much safer than Delhi or Mumbai .... at least 4 years ago! Guest guest
An alternative is to go to the West Coast and fly to Singapore...there you are able to fly directly to Trivandrum. Seems much safer...and going over a "Pacified" ocean seems more soothing than flying into the middle east...... ONS, Amritavarshini.
