Guest guest
Om Namah Shivaya Is anyone here familiar with Eva Airlines. I don't know too much about it and wondered if anyone has ever flown it (to India?) There seem to be some good deals out there. Thanks very much, Lisa
Guest guest
Haven't heard of it. My personal advice would be to stick with experienced airlines when it comes to international flights. I think Eva flies to Bombay & Delhi from some European cities, but not from North America. If you are looking for good deals from the US to Kerala, check out Kuwait Airways. From the East Coast, I think it is one of the best options - Kuwait flies from New York's JFK to Kuwait direct with no stop-overs and then from Kuwait to Trivandrum after a 4 hour transit at Kuwait. The shortest possible flight from NY to Kerala. The service is good, nice vegetarian food and the flights are almost always on time. Guest guest
Dear Uma, Thanks for your reply. Actually, I found some good deals on Eva from Los Angeles to Bombay...as I was thinking of flying into Bombay anyway because that is the city in India I am most familiar with and I was thinking of a short visit for "old times sake" believe it or not! When I checked airline ratings, Eva did pretty well on the internet though not up to par with Sinapore Airlines. I've considered Kuwait airlines, although I'm always concerned with flying into the Middle East with state of the world today, do you think this is safe for an American? And thanks for the tip. I'll definately check them out. Many thanks, Lisa Ammachi, "uma_roshen" <umaroshen@r...> wrote: > Haven't heard of it. Guest guest
Lisa-- Friends of mine have used Eva airlines to travel to and from India and have rated it as good (although not on par with Singapore airlines, as you've said). I hear that the plus point is that there is more leg room in Eva even in Economy class and it is usually cheaper than Singapore airlines. I have not travelled on Eva myself. Guest guest
I flew Kuwait Airlines from NYC to Dubai, then to Trivandrum. It was the most direct flight, and I too was nervous prior to going. I was amazed at how easy it was to find my way around the airport in Dubai (it's super small). The airport itself is clean and while most local women are in hijab, I felt totally comfortable in my salwar kameez and a scarf over my chest area. I never once felt unsafe or felt any anti-american sentiment. I would highly recommend this route if it is most convenient and affordable, as it was for me. The only drawback is that some men were smoking in the airport. Namah Shivaya!
Guest guest
Namah Shivaya, Oh, yes! I remember Dubai airport. Flew there via Air India back in the mid-80's. The airport itself was really luxurious. Thanks for the tip. L Ammachi, "anandam33" <anandam33> wrote: > I flew Kuwait Airlines from NYC to Dubai, then to Trivandrum. Guest guest
Lisa Sorry for the late response - I read my messages on the group website to keep my mailbox uncluttered, so just saw your message. Hope it is not too late. Kuwait, in my experience, is a pretty safe Middle-eastern airport. We have almost always flown Kuwait, so have various friends of ours, even during the war last year (as they had already booked the tickets and the war announcement came just 2 days before their scheduled day of flight). Never had any issues, except on one occasion the flight from Kuwait to Trivandrum was late by an hour or so because the Kuwaiti pilot arrived late at the airport due to a sandstorm. I have seen a lot of Americans and Europeans flying Kuwait and in the airport lounges in Kuwait. One tip would be to dress conservatively - I know this need not be emphasised with Amma's devotees as most of them already are, but it would be best to wear full-length pants/skirts with long sleeved tops or a salwar- kameez to avoid being the focal point at the airport. The reasons I fly Kuwait are (a) to avoid flying into Mumbai/Chennai/Delhi thereby spending hours in transit and changing airports (b) shortest flight time and transit times and © good service, almost always on time or even earlier than schedule. Kuwait these days have direct flights from NY JFK to Kuwait (14 hrs non- stop) and after a 4 hour or so transit at Kuwait, flies from Kuwait to Trivandrum arriving TRV early morning at around 5:00 am. Return flight leaves TRV again early morning at around 5:00 am for Kuwait, the transit at Kuwait is only 45 minutes before you board the Kuwait- JFK flight (again non-stop 14 hours) arriving JFK at about 4:00 in the evening. Very convenient timings as far as I am concerned. Also, Emirates airlines have started direct flights from JFK to Dubai, non-stop but is a bit more expensive than Kuwait. From Dubai, they have flights to Cochin, which is as good as flying to Trivandrum for people going to the ashram. The Emirates fleet is newer and more comfortable and spacious than those of Kuwait. Dubai again is a very cosmopolitan middle-eastern city and will be more open to westerners. Hope this helps. Have a good trip - when are you intending to go ? Uma.
