Guest guest
Namah Shivaya. There is a stunning quote attributed to Amma in "From Amma's heart". I don't have the book or the page # readily available, but I will paraphrase it. (someone had mentioned this quote here sometime back in the context of showing that Amma is as much a Vedantin as a Bhaktin, but the context of this mail is different). (Paraphrase begins) Q: Amma, is is true that there comes a stage when one has done all efforts he can in spiritual life, and then must WAIT (emphasis mine)? Is there nothing else he/she can do? Answer: Yes, it is true.. to a point, the devotee exerts himself to the max, then all he can do, or should do, is to wait...patiently. This is the time when the devotee must be extremely careful, and when the maximum support is needed from the Guru... in fact, the devotee can easily get frustrated because apparently nothing seems to be happening and he sees life passing by, and so he can easily go back into the material world, but this is when his patience must be resolute. (Paraphrase ends) I am very interested in this last aspect. Here are some questions I have about this point. 1. What is the nature of this waiting? 2. Do we just sit still patiently? 3. or does patience also involve tremendous restlessness (which is the key to calling God, as Amma frequently says)? 4. Extending the restlessness, does it involve getting it out onto the world also, in terms of irritability at our current position vis- a-vis our chosen desire? 5. Or does it mean to give up on the world and live as a recluse? 6. How does this affect our day-to-day activities? 7. MOST IMPORTANT: How do we recognize that we have given our maximum and that now we are supposed to be 'patiently waiting'? I invite everyone to discuss here; I would really like to hear anyone who can express his views on this. Don't worry if you think it's not an intelligent contribution (to say so would be being judgemental anyways).... and you can also write on this topic on points other than what I have mentioned here. So, please do write in. Jai Ma!

Guest guest
Om Namah Shivayah!! First, may that time come quickly for all of us when we are simply waiting for grace.... Second, it strikes me as such a tricky thing to even know that this phase of the spiritual path is ahead. It could be easy to assume that one has done all he/she can by effort alone, and that now all that is left is this waiting. How could a sadhak ever know when this moment has arrived? How does one feel the approach of the time of liberation? I've known so many yoga teachers here in Los Angeles who feel that they've arrived at the gates of moksha and simply have to sit down and wait for God to open them! It's almost painful to see the hypocrisy and the ego sticking out like a sore thumb on those teachers. Some sleep with students, some become drunk with the praise of students. And all sadhana has faded from their lives with the attitude that their work is done. They talk of samadhi and boast about their "high spiritual state." I am often reminded of Mother's advice on finding a Satguru, that a true realized being will not make any claims as to his/her greatness, but will show the greatest humility. I've had to catch myself a few times thinking that I was really making progress. Of course, Divine Mother came rushing to teach me a lesson!! Now I think it's maybe better to not speculate on exactly which phase of the great journey we are in, and just to keep up the sadhana. Maybe someday I will know that it's time to wait patiently, I don't know. I guess we'll only know when that time comes! Really interesting subject! love, Prajna --- manoj_menon <ammasmon wrote: > Namah Shivaya. > > There is a stunning quote attributed to Amma in > "From Amma's heart". > I don't have the book or the page # readily > available, but I will > paraphrase it. Guest guest
Namah Shivayah, You reminded me of something a friend once told me: If you really ARE a Satguru, you won't call yourself a Satguru -- others will.
