Namaste to all... _/\_

I have been having stomach pains quite often lately and I was

wondering if anyone knew of any treatment for this. Has Amma

suggested anything about this sort of belly pain? It's starting to

effect my ability to concentrate at work.

Stomach pain is very generic; can you give specifics (eg after/before

eating, what time of the day it peaks etc). Ayurveda has different

treatments for stomach pains(eg - there are three types of headache,

and the cause and remedy for each is different).

There is a good test to see if the pain is psychological and non-

pathological- check your breathing rate (use a clock and how many

breaths are taken over a minute when the pain is acute).

Om Namah Shivayah,

Niseemaji, two things I want to say: One, pray with

heart full of love for grace, healing, acceptance,

guidance, comfort, ect. And two, get thee to a doctor.

Better safe than sorry.

Once I asked Amma about a cirulatory problem I was

having in my fingers and toes. I was sort of expecting

some mystical explanation for it, and half-hoping that

Amma would kiss it and make it better. Instead She

laughed, shook Her head and said "Go to doctor!" It

turned out that I just needed to take a simple niacin

supplement.

As a yoga teacher, students are often telling me about

their various physical ailments. Sometimes it seems

clear to me that it is a physical manifestation of

some emotional pain, and often a series of asanas

and/or pranayama makes a big difference. But almost

always I suggest that they see a doctor, since I am

not the expert. But I might suggest you explore some

breathing techniques and some gentle asanas and see if

they help. Hatha is certainly not the answer to all of

our problems, but it won't hurt to try! Maybe some

gentle backbends (cobra, easy bridge, hero, if you

have strong knees) and some squatting poses (try with

your back against a wall and your elbows gently

pushing the insides of your knees, the hands in prayer

position). Do all with deep, slow breath through the

nose, making a slight constriction at the back of the

throat (should produce a little hissing sound),

filling first the belly, lower back, sides, and

finally chest.

May all beings be free from suffering.

love,

Prajna

Hello Niseema,

I happened to see that the Karuka Puja as listed on Amma's site says

it's good for "stomach problems of elders". Now I'm not casting

aspersions on your age, but that may help on the subtle level! :)

I would also say to see both a doctor and an ayurvedic person, and

try the hatha suggestions that have already been made. Pay close

attention to your diet. That way you've got all bases covered.

best,

frangi
