Guest guest
Om Namah Shivaya, In Aburquerque, New Mexico, during the retreat with Amma , something great happened during bhajans. For the first time Amma chant the Sri Mahisasuramardini Stotram and it was recorded in Cd and DVD. This is a beautiful chant that it has been sung after the thousand names everyday at the ashram. If you have the chance to purchase this CD and/or DVD, DO IT. You will absolutely love it. I heard the chant while I was in India and just made a huge impact on me. For the ones that did buy the CD, I need your help. I am trying to get the words of two chants from that CD. It is the opening chant at the first track and also the closing prayer from the last track. I need the names of those chants and also where to find the words. I am trying to chant during my meditations in the morning. My girlfriend and I looked everywhere and we couldn’t find it. We both are practicing the Stotram and found out very inspiring doing it. Of course our pronunciation is not the best but we put the CD very loud and also we use great devotion J I will love if someone can help me to find the words from these chants. _______________ FREE pop-up blocking with the new MSN Toolbar – get it now! http://toolbar.msn.click-url.com/go/onm00200415ave/direct/01/
Guest guest
Yes, She chanted the Sri Mahisasuramardini stotram in Rhode Island, as well, and it was soooo powerful! I did buy the "Chants" CD, but I didn't see where it was for sale on DVD? The first track is the Guru stotram. I haven't been able to find the *exact* version that they are chanting online, but this one is very close (a few verses in a different order, that's all): http://www.srividya.org/Laitha/ISSUE1.1/GURUST.HTM Does anyone else know where the version we use is printed? Is it printed somewhere? Here are the closing prayers: Om asato ma sad gamaya Tamaso ma jyotir gamaya Mrityor ma amritatam gamaya Om shanti shanti shanti Lead us from untruth to truth Lead us from darkness to light Lead us from death to everlasting life Om loka samasta sukhino bhavantu Om loka samasta sukhino bhavantu Om loka samasta sukhino bhavantu Om shanti shanti shanti May all beings in the universe be peaceful. [Om sarvesham svastir bhavatu Sarvesham shantir bhavatu Sarvesham purnam bhavatu Sarvesham mangalam bhavatu Om shanti shanti shanti May perfection prevail upon all May peace prevail upon all May contentment prevail upon all May auspiciousness prevail upon all] Om purna mada purna midam Purnat purnam udachyate Purnasya purnam adaya Purnam eva vasishyate Om shanti shanti shanti That is the Whole, this is the Whole >From the Whole, the Whole arises Taking away the Whole from the Whole The Whole remains Om sri gurubyo namah harihi om To the supreme guru, I prostrate. [i'm not sure if that third verse is on the recording or not, but we do chant it sometimes!] Hope that helps! I was looking through my CDs recently, and found one I had bought from there years ago, but never listened to: "Learn Sri Mahishasura Mardini Stotram!" Although it's not my intention to promote another spiritual teacher here, this CD might be helpful to those of you who are having trouble learning the pronunciation of this stotram. She speaks through the entire stotram, pronouncing all of the words very clearly. This teaching CD may be found here: http://www.karunamayi.org/xcart/customer/home.php?cat=253 (And similarly to Mother's Books, all of the proceeds go to humanitarian projects.) Karunamayi is an incarnation of Saraswati, so you couldn't ask for a better teacher! During the Toronto devi bhava, Amma didn't sing this stotram but the Toronto satsang did! On the first night of the retreat I lead "Bolo bolo gokula bala". (the second time I had sung for Amma - last year in Detroit, I sang another simple Hindi Krishna bhajan, "Choti choti gaya") But some of the Toronto satsang group didn't get to sing for Amma at all, even though we had been practicing for months. For some reason, they cut us off after we had sung a little over half of the bhajans we had planned to sing. I will have more to write about the Toronto programs in a day or two. Guest guest
Namah Shivaya, I also have Karunamayi's Sri Mahishasura Mardini Stotram tape. The lyrics differ somewhat from the version that is printed in Amma's Bhajan Supplement. Plus, someone told me that the tune isn't exactly like the version sung at Amritapuri. But, it's all good. Guest guest
I think your tape must be different from the CD I'd mentioned. There may be the same issue of the lyrics differing slightly, but the CD is a teaching CD, and it's spoken, not sung. Guest guest
Is this Guru stotram also chanted during the Pada pooja when Amma enters the hall (it is a traditional verse from the Veda)? If so this is available at www.hindu.org (I think it is in the free book "Loving Ganesha"). -yogaman > > The first track is the Guru stotram. Guest guest
The verse chanted when Amma enters the hall is a traditional greeting for a renunciate (aka, swami/ni). It is made of several Vedic verses. The meaning starts out "It is not by action, nor by progeny, nor wealth that one attains immortality, but by renunciation alone." It continues to praise who is well established in the truth of the Self and the renunciate lifestyle and/or renunciation itself which transcends life choices..
