Guest guest
Dear Bala et al., I believe it was Andrew Cohen, not Andrew Harvey who was quoted as saying Amma is the greatest living master. Having just finished Andrew Harvey's "Sun at Midnight," I think he would be very upset to have his name attributed to praising any guru from India. Guest guest
Yes .. It is Andrew Cohen not Harvey- though it doesnt matter at all of course,.... people can say what they want , Amma does not need anybody's certificate. I read Andrew harvey's orginial book on Mother Meera and now of course he has left Her and is talking against gurus... very sad ... the Guru is not here to support our whims and fancies but to remove our ego . bala "E. Guest guest
Dear Manoj, Well, "disgruntled disciple" would be putting it mildly. He's the ex-disciple of Mother Meera, who is or was somewhat connected to the Aurobindo ashram, or so I thought. He early on wrote "Hidden Journey," a positive book that introduced thousands to Mother Meera. His views have changed drastically. Andrew Cohen is considered a guru by some. He started the magazine, "What is Englightenment?" and interviewed Amma in Barcelona. If you go to the website http://amritapuri.org/amma/in/cpwr/address.htm and click on photos, his photo is #8 of 24. Incidentally, his mother, Luna Tarlo, wrote a scathing book about him, called "Mother of God." In Amma, Jyotsna manoj_menon <ammasmon wrote: Ammachi, "E. Andrew Cohen was close disciple of Papaji aka Poonjaji and spent significant amount of time with later at his house in Lucknow,India. Papaji was a house holder Punjabi Brahmin and direct disciple of Ramana Maharshi. Papaji is also said to be closley related to Swami Rama Tirtha( who visited United States soon after Swami Vivekanada). Story goes that Andrew Cohen had some differences with Papaji since Papaji was particulary close to a female devotee( I am not really sure). Whatever, Andrew Cohen left India and never belived any Guru there after. But I am really glad to read what Andrew Cohen said about Ammachi in Barcelona. Regards Avinash. Thank you, Avinash, for your info. I know about Poonjaji aka Papaji. I have David Godman's 3-book set 'Nothing ever happened' on Papaji... very fascinating. Papaji, although married, was close to another European devotee, and eventually married her.... not sure if this was the reason Andrew Cohen was upset with Papaji. Anyway, Papaji was an unusual character... All is God's lila. Jai Ma!
