Guest guest
OM AMRITESWARYAI NAMAH AMMA SAYS - JOKE No faith in the Elephant During the Indian Tour 2000, on our way to Mysore, we stopped for a tea break near a forest area in Ooty, Tamil Nadu. Near where we were all seated, around Amma, was a sign that read: 'Be aware of wild elephants passing by!' Crowding around Amma, everyone was enjoying the special feeling of 'half fear, half fun'. Mother was in a joyful mood telling everyone not to go far off, asking if they were afraid, and cracking jokes. She told the following jokes. Once, a Guru was sitting in a forest talking with his disciples. He was explaining how they should see everything in the external world as Maya (illusion), and not be affected by it, whatever it might be. Suddenly, a wild elephant attacked the group. The Guru was the first one to stand up and run for his life. The disciples followed him. One of them asked: 'Master, you were just telling us that everything is an illusion, then why are you running away? Isn't this wild elephant an illusion too?' The Master replied: 'You fool! Is this the time to ask questions? The elephant will get us.' After running for some time, the Master said, 'Yes, it is an illusion ..... and us running away is an illusion too!" The Mother narrated an incident that happened to one of the brahmacharis who was visiting a forest area to give satsangs. He asked the devotees if it was possible to see the elephants in the wild. They told him that it was possible but could be dangerous. He said: 'We will go! Don't you have faith in Amma?' They drove for some time in a jeep, then started walking inside the forest. After a 30-minute walk, they saw some fresh elephant dung and the devotees told the brahmachari that the elephant was probably very near. The brahmachari got really scared, and he took to his heels. The devotees asked him: 'What happened Swami? Don't you want to see the elephant?' He answered: 'No! No! Let's go back now! The elephant is nearby, he might attack at anytime!' They said: 'But Swami, don't have faith in Amma?' He replied: 'Yes! Yes! I have faith in Amma ..... but I don't have faith in the elephant!' :: AMMA SHARANAM
