Guest guest
OM AMRITESWARYAI NAMAH AMMA SAYS - STORY Innocent Prayers - Thambrante Simham Va Va... "Children, innocent prayers, calling out to the Lord, is a powerful way to please the Lord. You don't need to be a scholar to do that. Even for an uneducated layman or an illiterate forest dweller, the Lord's grace can be attained if one is really determined to achieve the goal." "There is a story which illustrates this point. One of the disciples of the first Sankaracharya was very proud of his devotion to the Lord. His beloved deity was Narasimha, the man-lion, the fourth incarnation of Vishnu. In order to please his beloved deity and to have His vision, the devotee went to the forest to perform intense tapas. For many days he meditated sitting on the rock near the hermitage, and became seriously engaged doing austere sadhana." "The sadhak did not notice that one day a forest dweller came to watch him. The forest dweller observed him with great curiosity but couldn't understand why this man was sitting in such an odd position, upright with crossed legs. Since the devotee had his eyes closed, the simple man mistook the meditative posture for sleep. The forest dweller was so curious and eager to speak to the sleeping man, that he came every day and waited for hours, hoping that the devotee would open his eyes." "At last, a day came when the sadhak emerged from his meditation. The simple forest dweller approached him with great respect and asked, 'Tambra, why do you always sit and sleep? Why don't you lie down?' Seeing the innocence of the forest dweller, the devotee laughed and said, 'Oh, silly man, I am not sleeping, I am meditating on the form of my beloved deity'." "Ofcourse the forest dweller didn't understand anything. Having lived in the forest all his life, he was uneducated and illiterate. 'Meditating? Beloved deity? What is that?' he exclaimed. The devotee said, 'You do not understand this sort ot thing. I am calling and praying to my Lord.' The forest dweller again wondered, 'What! Calling someone without moving from this place? Why don't you go and look for him?' The devotee did not reply. He simply smiled and went back into medition."
