Guest guest
MEDITATE WHILE YOU WORK : A NEW PATH FOR A NEW AGE (40) Swami Ashokananda In my opinion, the practice of Karma Yoga is an extraordinary spiritual practice. Just consider it arithmetically: You meditate three hours of the day; maybe all together you specifically practice four or five hours. At least twelve waking hours will remain for you. What will you do with them ? For the most part, you will be working, and if you practice karma yoga at that time, those hours will become hours of spiritual practice. You will feel yourself as this vast Being. One difference between the teaching of karma yoga as it is found in the Gita and as it is found in Swami Vivekananda's Karma Yoga and in other places where he taught this path is that the Swami always emphasized that a person should think of himself as the Spirit, Brahman. Of course, in the Gita, also, that is implied. Before Sri Krishna gave his discourse on karma yoga, which begins with the third chapter, he gave a teaching in the second chapter on the true nature of the soul. You remember that most extraordinary teaching - how the soul cannot destroy and cannot be destroyed ? Beautiful teachings are there about the indestructibilty, immortality, and eternity of the soul. That is the background of the teaching of karma yoga. And Swami Vivekananda brought it forward and made it explicit. He wanted everyone to have this consciousness within him: What a wonderful existence is this in which I find myself as the most excellent being ! Nothing to be egotistical about, because I find everyone else is that most excellent being.
