Namaste,

I have been putting sacred ash on my third eye day and night while meditating.

It is now hurting, sometimes feels hot, and now I have a constant headache that

spreads from there on out. I know that Amma says not to meditate without a Guru

to guide you. So should I stop putting the sacred ash on?

Namah Shivaya,

I seem to remember reading in one of the Awaken

Children books that Ammas said we should not meditate

on the third eye in the beginning. Instead She suggets

meditating on God's/Guru's form, or light if your God

is formless.

Namaste Sister,

I meditate on the breath... I only put the sacred ash on my third eye (and

tongue) before I meditate....Should I stop?

Namah Shivaya,

I'm only a novice meditator, so I really couldn't say.

It seems to me that if it's uncomfortable then you

should stop. However, only Amma can really answer

questions like that.

Robin,

You can put the sacred ash on your third eye and tongue any time of

the day... it only has a cooling effect on you.... but restrict that

to just once a day because I heard that taking ash too much has the

effect of dehydrating the body... but once/day is ok.

Also, if you are having headaches while meditating, I suggest you

stop the practice immediately, speak to a qualified meditation

instructor with whom you are comfortable, and meditate as per the

guidance you receive from that person.

Also, make sure that you have access to the person regularly, either

physically or by some other means, so that you can clarify all

doubts that may arise...

May Amma's Grace be with you and your efforts.

Namaste,

It is just today that this has occurred. It didn't happen while I was

meditating but has been happening ever sense I have stopped this morning. It is

heat coming off of this area and I have a mild headache from it. This has never

happened before. Once a day, Got it!!

I agree with Manoj. Definitely discontinue until you can speak with

someone knowledgeable.

Be sure you are breathing deeply and that your nasal passages are

clear, as well.

Nmaha Shivaya,

I've read that Amma has said that meditation can also be done while

concentrating on the heart (I assume the spiritual one). I recall reading that

Amma said that while concentrating on the spiritual eye during meditation, it

can become very hot. I believe it was for this reason She encouraged the

practice in the presence of a Guru, since the Guru would know what to do about

it.
