Guest guest
MEDITATE WHILE YOU WORK : A NEW PATH FOR A NEW AGE (39) Swami Ashokananda It is not that a person works all the time. My motto is: when I open my eyes may I see God everywhere; when I close my eyes may I see God within me. If you are not doing anything, close your eyes, let your mind at once go unto God. If you are talking to someone, let your words be addressed to God and not to man. Why do you think when Swami Vivekananda spoke to anyone, even a causal word, he just changed that person's life ? Once he was staying as a guest of someone in Bihar. One morning he had gone out for a walk and met a boy who was also out for a walk. He looked at the boy's feet, and he found that he had not tied his shoelaces properly. And Swami Vivekananda knelt down and tied the laces for him, and said, 'My boy, you must not be sloppy,' and he went on. The boy never forgot that incident; it changed his life. Just this one meeting, just this one. It is a universal testimony that anyone who approached Swami Vivekananda felt the very best within himself rising to the surface of his consciousness. He felt that he was also someone, that he had a mission in life, he could be great. Instinctively, all used to feel that way in his presence. The very best they were capable of would rise vividly in their mind. Why do you think it was so ? Because Swami Vivekananda saw the highest in everyone. He saw Brahman in everyone. If only in very small measure, we have to do the same. If he carried many suns in his hand, we should be able to carry at least a few candles, but light we must carry. We also must see as he saw, then everything will become transformed for us.

Guest guest
Girish, I already have a hard copy of the book, but thanks for the website info also. What I meant was to know the stories around the saint (like tying the boy's lace, or how others felt about him, or other such stories)... It is always thrilling to hear stories around a saint, any saint. Here is one story that exemplifies how the saint looked at the world. One after giving a speech in the USA, which was of course impressive, and after getting a standing ovation, lots of people came to meet Swami Vivekananda and talk to him. (I forget if this was after the first speech or after one of the many subsequent speeches). Anyway, this beautiful lady came to him with a proposition in front of the many people there. She told him something to this effect: With my good looks and your awesome intellect, we can bring to the world the most perfect kid. What do you say? Immediately, without a second thought and with the fastest reflex possible, Swami knelt down and touched her feet and said "Mother!" Jai Ma! P.S.: This story was releated to me by an old friend; I have not seen the published vesrion of this incident in any book yet.
