Question on my cats

I am new at the newsgroup having joined just a few weeks ago and

have seen many postings that would make mine seem so insignificant to

other's problems but I must ask anyway. Perhaps I am not listening to

Amma's answers or maybe she wishes to have the answers answrered here

in the room but I must ask anyway.

Bout 7 months ago my daughter gave me a cat which I galdly took in

but it has been driving me nuts. I work the weekend on 3rd shift so

that when regular days comes around I like to have my sleep . At

around 2 AM in the morning my cat starts meowing and it really

irritates me. I then have to put her in a cabinet and close it so I

can get a restful sleep. About 2 months ago I opened my door and she

scooted out and didn't come back till 10 hours later. Well lo and

behold she got pregnant and had 1 kitten. I thought it was fine when

she had the kitten and all that but now she's meowing and holwing at

2 am... 4 am .. etc when I should be sleeping. I'm thinking of

bringing the cat and the kitten to the Humane Society there. Would it

be wrong of me to do it? Should I keep them even though they are

driving me nuts and tearing my place apart? I live in an apartment

and though I love cats it is one difference from owning a house where

one can let them go outside to one in an apartment where there is

traffic all around. Amma says that even an has the consciousness that

is us and cats are no difference but I just need to do what is right

here. Any thoughts there? I would appreciate it very much.

Namah Shivaya,

Your adult cat was/is meowing because she is in heat.

Please only take her and her kitten to a no-kill

animal shelter! I can understand that you are unable

to care for them, but please do not let them be killed

when there are alternatives. It would also be a very

good idea to have your adult cat spayed so she doesn't

get pregnant again, and it may quiet her down a lot.

The kitten may be hyper for a while, but it's a baby

and it's to be expected. The kitten can be spayed or

neutered after several months.

If you want help finding resources, contact me

directly and I'll help find some in your area. In the

meantime, try earplugs - I have four indoor cats and

use them frequently (the spongy type work very well).

Namah Shivaya,

I used to volunteer at a humane society, & especially after that experience,

would strongly advise against that option. I am also willling to help you

locate alternatives. While at the shelter I was told that for each dog & cat to

have a home in the U.S., every person would need to adopt seven animal

companions. Since I believe that neutering & spaying our pets can help to

prevent much suffering, I also hope you choose that route. I agree that it

sounds as if your cat is in heat. They usually seem to calm down substantially

after being spayed. I read in one of the posts about Amma's L.A. Q&A sessions

that She said we don't have the right to take life, since we didn't create it.

So, I agree that it would be best to place them in a no-kill shelter. My son &

I both feel we see God very much in our animal companions! I am so glad you

asked.

It might be good to have both cats spayed or neutered. That might

eliminate the night time yowling and pregnancies. Often the Humane

Societies are set up to do that at low cost.

Maybe you could post a notice at your workplace. It could be that

someone who works day or evening shift would enjoy having a cat.
