Guest guest
Hi all, I do recall one question (actually four) that was asked at the LA retreat. A woman asked, "Is suicide wrong? What happens after death to people who commit suicide? What does Amma teach about helping others to die? I had a friend who wanted me to help him end his life, but I didn't feel right about it, yet I helped put the needle in the vein of a beloved pet that died. What about helping animals die as an act of mercy?" There was a discussion with the swamis, and Amma said She didn't want to answer the question about suicide because whatever Her answer was, it would make someone sad. If she said it was wrong, some would feel sad, and if she said it wasn't wrong, some would be sad. She said that we can pray for those who commit suicide, and they will be uplifted. She also said that in regard to animals, ask the doctor and take the doctor's advice. She said that none of us have the right to end life because we didn't create it, that Amma's path is that of not killing anything. I'm sure there's more in my notes, but this is at least part of what was said. Jyotsna
