Guest guest
OM AMRITESWARYAI NAMAH AMMA SAYS - STORY Milk and Cookies "There were two children, a brother and a sister. One day they dressed up in robes and put paper crowns on their heads. They pretended they were the king and queen of the land. They walked over to the neighbor's house and knocked on the door. 'Who is it?' she asked. 'It is the king and the queen,' said the children. The neighbor decided to play along with them. She opened the door wide and said, 'Your Majesties! What a great honor! Had known you were coming, I would have laid out the red carpet and called the trumpeters.' 'It doesn't matter,' said the children. 'Just let us in and give us something to eat.' The woman led them inside and pulled out two chairs for them. 'Please sit on your thrones, your Majesties,' she said. The 'king' and 'queen' sat down with great dignity. The woman brought them homemade cookies and milk. 'Here are some delicacies fit for royalty,' she said. The king and queen nodded their approval. The cookies were beautiful, shaped like different animals. There was a large variety of bears, cats, fish, ducks, and lambs, but there was only one elephant cookie. And because there was only one elephant cookie, both the king and the queen wanted it. They both reached for it, but the queen got hold of it first. This made the king so angry that he threw his milk all over the queen. The queen grabbed a handful of cookies and threw them on the king. Soon they were bombarding each other with cookies, and then they jumped up from their thrones and began fighting in earnest. Their crowns flew off and their robes were torn. No more were they the king and queen of the land, but only two children fighting over a cookie. "Children, only constant practice done with great patience and enthusiasm will enable you to overcome your latent tendecies and old habits. Above all, you need the grace and loving guidance of a satguru. Don't ever give up your spiritual practices just because of a moment's frustration or disappointment. Whatever type of sadhana you do, the result cannot be lost. Whatever you have gained remains within you and will bear fruit at the right time." :: AMMA SHARANAM
