Guest guest
OM AMRITESWARYAI NAMAH AMMA SAYS - STORY Who is there for her but me? There was once a very poor couple who had an only daughter. Unfortunately, this daughter had been born blind and lame. When the girl was very young, her father died, leaving the mother and child helpless, with no one to look after them. So the mother had no choice but to go out in search of work to support herself and her daughter. She started working as a servant. Whenever she would go to the houses where she was employed, she would take her little girl with her, as there was no one else to look afer her. Then she got a job in the house of a very rich man. This man also had a daughter. One day, the rich man's daughter saw the servant's daughter walking along, limping on her deformed legs, and stumbling as she couldn't see where she was going. The rich man's daughter's heart was filled with compassion, and her eyes filled with tears. Immediately she went over to her, took her hand, and started talking to her very lovingly. She made friends with her and from then on, would always try to cheer her friend up, make her laugh, and play with her. However, seeing his daughter playing with this servant's child, the rich man was not pleased. He tried to get his daughter to forget this child, and make friends with other children of more rich and cultured parents. One day, he even invited one of his rich friends, who had a daughter the same age as his own, over to his house so that his daughter would meet her. Although she played with her for a while, she still went back to her best friend, the servant's daughter. Seeing this, her father asker her, "Why didn't you play much with my friend's daughter? Don't you like her? Why do you play with that poor servant girl? Couldn't you find some friend more of our status and culture?" His daughter replied, "Oh, father, I did like her. But she has plenty of toys and other friends to play with. But this servant girl is all alone. Poor thing, she is handicapped, blind, and weak. If I don't show her any love and kindness, she will have no one else." "Children, service to the poor is our real duty towards God. We need to develop compassion and love for all of our fellow beings." :: AMMA SHARANAM
