Guest guest
Namah Shivaya: Tomorrow (May 13th) is Hanuman Jayanthi, the birthday of Shree Hanuman, the monkey God who is the foremost devotee of Shree Ram. Swami Vivekanada says the following about Hanumanji: You have now to make the character of Mahavira your ideal. See how at the command of Ramachandra he crossed the ocean. He had no care for life or death! He was a perfect master of his senses and wonderfully sagacious. You have now to build your life on his great ideal of personal service. Through that, all the other ideals will gradually manifest in life. Obedience to Guru without questioning, and strict observance of Brahmacharya - this is the secret of success. As on the one hand Hanuman represents the ideal of service, so on the other he represents leonine courage, striking the whole world with awe. He has not he least hesitation in sacrificing his life for the good of Rama. A supreme indifference to everything except the service of Rama, even to the attainment of the status of Brahma and Shiva, the great World- Gods! Only the carrying out of Shri Rama's best is the one vow of this life! such whole-hearted devotion is wanted. The following is from a book called Hanuman Chalisa, published by Sri Ramakrishna Math: Pray to Hanuman, the embodiment of devotion and knowledge. Meditate on Him. Observe brahmacharya in His name. Anything is possible with His grace. May we always proclaim, 'Jai Bajrangbali ki Jai', victory to Hanuman who has the strength of the thunderbolt. Amme Sharanam, ota ps: The orange statue you see at amritapuri.org Mother's page is of Lord Hanuman!

On my calendar, and at the local temples, Hanuman Jayanti was celebrated on April 5th. The full moon in April. It always seems to co-incide with Passover! Not much in common, though Hanuman did free Sita from slavery to Ravana! Hanuman Jayanti is not the only Hindu holiday that seems to fall on the same day as a Jewish holiday - Holi comes on the same day as Purim! Guest guest
I think that's because they're both nature-based religions. At least that's what a friend of mine says. There can be no disagreement about when the full and new moons occur!
