Guest guest
ONS, I submit that it is not the mantra that is the panacea; it is our own Self that is the panacea. When through chanting the divine mantra given by one's guru, the inner Self begins to manifest, thereby making all things "okay," one may think it was the mantra, but in reality it is our attunement with that shining inner Self that causes the happiness. Guest guest
Dear Jyotsna: Thank you for your POV. My response is not meant to provoke or create disturbance. The thoughts are intended to scratch my Maya hardened skull. Jyotsna wrote: I submit that it is not the mantra that is the panacea, it is my own self that is a panacea. Darling Daughter Jyotsna, Merriam Webster On-Line defines panacea as a remedy for all ills or difficulties : CURE-ALL. It seems that To this Maya Inflicted Son, the Self is playing hide and seek. We need Yoga techniques to peel away the impurities covering the Self. For example why meditate? Why wash dishes at the temple or ashram? Why should we attend Satsang? Who needs to read scripture? Tapas? Fast one day a week? It is lovingly submitted that this thing we call The Self is covered up. The Self is like a beautiful pond covered with scum. The scum are the impurities known as Desire. You have done a service by stimulating the discussion. In the last analysis the Self is the Mantra and the Mantra is the Self. The word OM is God. The Hare Krishna Movement contends that every time you say Krishna, Lord Krishna is standing there in full bloom. Semantics aside my response is meant to differentiate between the garden hoe (the Mantra) and the Weeds. With Love, G4M "E.
