Guest guest
I was reading today's Amritavani email, where it seems very clear that we should pray for and desire only the Divine. And, yet, I've also heard Amma talk about how we should feel like we can ask Her for anything, because She's our Mother. Why would She have said that we, as Her children, can ask Her for any of our material "needs," when it seems like She's also saying that we should simply have faith that any real needs will be provided for, as long as we have true devotion? How are we spiritually/ materially struggling householders to understand these two perspectives as one? Namah shivaya, Iswari
Guest guest
Namah Shivaya Iswari, What a wonderful question. I don't have the answer, but I'll share an experience. One evening during darshan in San Ramon, Amma was talking to people gathered around Her and answering some questions. Her answers were being translated by one of Amma's swamis. I was sitting very close to the swami, and after hearing one of his translations, I repeated the gist of his answer back to him, in the form of an incredulous question : "Do you mean we're only supposed to pray to know God?" He smiled at me and said, "Yes, but we're not there yet." He seemed to be both confiding and advising, in a very sweet way. All I know is that I felt tremendously relieved to hear him say what he did. One day my prayers will only be for God. I can hardly fathom the grace that will bring me to that day...or I should say, the grace that is bringing me to that day. Thank you, precious Mother. But for now, my prayers are to know God, and also for and about every other thing in my life that troubles me or confuses me or delights me or moves me. In my prayers I ask Amma not only to help me know my True Self, but to heal and bless the sick and hurting, to keep beloveds safe, to help with my finances, to guide my work, to give me the words. I pray for peace in our world. Today I even asked Amma to bless and protect a little chameleon who's started visiting our balcony. Sometimes I think maybe my prayers are a little goofy. But I am noticing that the more I pray to Amma, the more I love Amma. And maybe that's the answer to my prayer to know the Divine... Guest guest
Namah Shivaya Amala and all of Amma's Children, This is a wonderful post! To pray, and then pray some more does seem to bring me closer to Amma also. Could the secret be to offer the prayer and then let go of expectation about the desired result? Should we say, "My most beloved Amma, this child feels this need, please help." and then have faith that She hears us and is always with us? Your faith is evident in your words and I thank you for them. Jai Ma! Omana > But I am noticing that the more I pray to Amma, the > more I love Amma.
