Guest guest
Namah Shivaya, This reminds me of a similar questions Christians face: Do we update Jesus' teachings because they were more relevant in His time, or do we take them literally because the Divine knows what is relevant for all times? > > I think this statement has more relevance in the > > Indian context than > > in the context of the US because of the > > lifestyle.... > So this should > apply everywhere - it's up to us to use our > discrimination to identify where > it is applicable. Guest guest
Greetings, Gabriela. Which specific teachings of Jesus were you referring to ? -Girish On Fri, 9 Apr 2004, Gabriela Rios wrote: > Namah Shivaya, > > This reminds me of a similar questions Christians > face: Do we update Jesus' teachings because they were > more relevant in His time, or do we take them > literally because the Divine knows what is relevant > for all times? > > > > I think this statement has more relevance in the > > > Indian context than > > > in the context of the US because of the > > > lifestyle.... > > > So this should > > apply everywhere - it's up to us to use our > > discrimination to identify where > > it is applicable. > > > > > > > > Small Business $15K Web Design Giveaway > http://promotions./design_giveaway/ > > > > Aum Amriteswarayai Namaha! > Links > > > > > >
Guest guest
Namah Shivaya, The only example I can think of at this early in the morning is this: Jesus says that it is better to tear out your eye than to look at another man's wife. That wasn't a direct quote; my bible is at my office. But I guess I should've said "New Testament" teachings or "Bible teachings" rather than "Jesus' teachings" simply because the first two are more specific in the details. For example, Jesus didn't say (as far as I can remember) anything about how people should dress, but the New Testament (one of Paul's letters) says women must cover their long hair and men must cut their hair short. That is a better example of the argument about whether modern-day Christians should take that as relevant today. Anyway, I wasn't trying to make any kind of statement either way. I only saw a parallel with this and interpretation of Mother's teachings.
